Community Drug and Alcohol Treatment.
Sixteen years experience as a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Practitioner and Team Leader specialising in criminal justice service provisions. Significant experience in multi-agency working and co-production accompanied by the ability to manage multiple competing priorities and meet key performance indicators. Highly experienced in delivering client-focused structured interventions, and assessments whilst supporting vulnerable and marginalised people. Good knowledge of engagement/treatment techniques such as cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing and trauma-informed practice.
Research and Academia
Highly adaptable, committed and passionate social science PhD graduate (2024) with broad knowledge beyond drug use specialism. A qualitative researcher at heart with a keen interest in hard-to-reach, vulnerable and marginalised populations. Particular interest in Chicago School symbolic interactionism, labelling theory, interviewing and ethnography. Yet, open-minded and equipped with a good understanding of quantitative methodologies and the ability to synthesise quantitative research findings with qualitative data. A passionate advocate for social justice with a particular interest in repeal of the Misuse of Drugs Act (1971).
Following the publication of Black's (2021) Independent Review of Drugs additional funding (AF) was made available to drug and alcohol services.
Responsible for the delivery of:
Promoted to directly manage and develop the Drug Testing on Arrest (DTOA) provision.
Assessment of individuals presenting with complex drug and alcohol support needs many of whom were in frequent contact with the criminal justice system. Duties included:
Case management of 50 to 70 individuals presenting with long-term class A drug dependency issues (heroin, crack cocaine), health, mental health and social care needs. Specific responsibilities included:

On leaving school I worked as a trainee Veterinary Nurse for 4 years.
My first sales job was selling industrial cleaning products I then progressed to selling new and used cars for over ten years.
National Winner of Turning Points 'Inspired by Possibility Award' (2022) for outstanding contribution to Suffolk's new criminal justice service provision. Over 500 people are nominated for these awards annually from which around 10 winners are selected across Turning Point's varied services.
I will join the British Society of Criminology and the British Sociological Association upon appointment.
