Work History

Roadworker

Tayside Contracts
Dundee, Tayside
06.2014 - Current

At this current time I am working around Dundee and surrounding areas doing all sorts of road maintenance such as :- road surface patching, barriers, signs, bollards and most important when it comes to it is gritting keeping the roads and footpaths clear in the winter. These are only a hand full of things I do as I am flexible in my work. I work in all weathers due to the kind of work I am in. I also use all different kinds of power tools to get the jobs done appropriately along with working different forms of machinery such as :- rollers, diggers, dumpers, tracair also I have my HGV (class1) with in date CPC. To date (pre covid19) in my current job I have been giving the tasks of installing and erecting street signs along with pedestrian barriers and bollards and I also normally get the call to attend any RTA if they have damaged any sign poles or barriers so I can make them safe or take out and replace as I have everything in my van I would need to complete the job. Since i have returned to work after Covid19 lockdown i have been the Dundee depots Hiab lorry driver doing all different tasks and lifts around Tayside and Angus. My main task is picking up and dropping off material's with the clamshell but with the crane being versatile it also gets used to lift large objects with different lifting equipment such as chains and slings. Its not every day the crane is needed so this can also be stowed away to then let the lorry be used as a tipper body.

Roadworker

BEAR Scotland
Dundee?Perth, Tayside
02.2011 - 05.2014

My time at BEAR Scotland was my first steps to becoming a roadworker. My role here was based on traffic management (TM) putting out lane closures up and down the network (A90 & A92) for emergency and maintenance work on bridges, dual carriageway and even verge works dealing with various drainage. This was my first experience of winter stand by working on call getting up early hours to clear snow and ice from the cycle/footpath from Arbroath to Dundee.

Fuel Pump Builder/Factory work

Tokheim
Dundee, Tayside
02.2010 - 01.2011

My short time at Tokheim was building fuel pumps to be delivered all over the world. My duties were to build the motor/engine parts of the pump on a production line of 6 areas before getting moved on to a different department on the shop floor. This type of work involved in working with small parts nuts and bolts so concentration levels were high to make sure there was no room for error.

Tyre maker

Michelin Tyres
Dundee, Tayside
06.2009 - 12.2009

The Michelin factory was my first inside job from leaving school and for a company as big as them it was great to have a chance to work there but it was only agencies work. In my time here I started of cutting up all the failed tyres from the production line and packed them up for recycling. Then I got the chance to go on the finishing machine that is on the production line to make the tyres. Rubber fed through from a mill form machine to my machine that then went through different stages to form a tyre that then got checked before it got sent to cure.

Bricklayers Labourer

GP Builders
Dundee, Tayside
08.2003 - 06.2009

This was my first job from leaving school. It all started of with cleaning up around the building sites keeping the place clean and tidy to prevent slips and trips then as I got more use to the work I was getting more involved in helping out the bricklayers and the bricklayers labourer by doing my usual cleaning jobs as well as moving materials and help to keep a step ahead of the bricklayers. Got to the point I was left to be the full time labourer so I was mixing up all sorts of mortars and concrete keeping ahead of the bricklayers by loading the scaffolding up with blocks and other materials. I gained experience in using all sorts of power tools and machinery in my time as a labourer such as diggers dumpers and many other items. During my time here I done all different sizes of jobs and different styles from barn conversions to new build conservatory's to extensions along with various ground works.
