Assistant House Master – Elmfield
o Maintaining discipline with the House.
o Providing an environment in which each boy is able to develop his talents and interests.
o Ensuring that boys undertake a broad programme of co-curricular activities.
o To read, understand and promote the School's Health and Safety policies (particular health and safety responsibilities are further outlined in the School's Health and Safety policy and the House Masters' Handbook);
o Assist the House Master in overseeing boys' academic progress and work, including giving appropriate guidance when boys are making academic decisions, in collaboration with the House Tutors
o Creating an environment where all forms of bullying and antisocial behaviour are regarded as unacceptable; and
o Being available to boys in the House should they wish/need to discuss any matters with him/her.
· Head of Academic PE
o Principal responsibility for:
o The teaching and administration of the subject at Harrow, within and outside the timetable;
o GCSE and A Level teaching through OCR Exam boards for both
o Provision for the subject and areas related to it in the Super-Curriculum; and
o The leadership of the Masters teaching the subject in maintaining the highest academic standards and developing best practice in their teaching.
· STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP OF THE DEPARTMENT
o Leading the contribution of the department to the achievement of the School's purpose through the encouragement of scholarship, the provision of opportunity, the development of character, the professional development of all staff, and through effective operational management;
o Defining and articulating a vision for the department with a rolling five-year horizon;
o Identifying in collaboration with all Masters in the department its annual Strategic Objectives; and
o Promoting and upholding the values of the School, by example, by encouragement and by instruction.
· LINE MANAGEMENT OF THE DEPARTMENT
o Being involved in the recruitment, appointment and induction of new Masters at Harrow;
o Line-managing all teachers of the subject and any associated support staff including:
o Keeping records of all absences and issues related to employment;
o Provision of regular feedback on the performance of all Masters working in the department, and the management and resolution of problems or concerns;
o Annual observation of all Masters teaching the subject;
o Promotion of appropriate Inset through the departmental and central Inset budgets;
o Encouragement and oversight of a programme of mutual observation;
o Oversight of the overall workload and contribution to the School of Masters in the department; and
o Promotion of teamwork and mutual support among staff in the department.
o Contributing to the triennial appraisal process; and
o Dealing with all parental queries and complaints relating to the teaching of the subject, in collaboration with the Director of Studies and (where necessary) the Head Master and others in the Senior Management Team.
· LOGISTICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE OVERSIGHT OF THE DEPARTMENT
o Contribution to the construction of the timetable for the teaching of the subject;
o Oversight of examination entries for boys taking the subject at all levels, together with arrangements for coursework or controlled assessment, in collaboration with the Head of Examinations;
o Availability at the time of the publication of examination results in August, to provide initial commentary to the Director of Studies and the Academic & Universities Director and advice for House Masters in contact with boys and their parents;
o Compilation and submission of the departmental Annual Academic Report to the Director of Studies and the Academic & Universities Director;
o Responsibility for the oversight of Masters' marking and assessment within the department;
o Responsibility for the setting, marking, processing and final grading of all Trials and Mocks;
o Responsibility for the marking of Common Entrance and Scholarship papers, and any other admissions tests in the subject;
o Convening and chairing regular meetings of all Masters involved in the teaching of the subject
o Maintaining a Department Handbook that is in line with School policies and procedures; and
o Adhering to Section 13 of the School's Health and Safety policy.
· ENGAGEMENT OUTSIDE THE DEPARTMENT
o Supporting the Head of Learning Skills in making any necessary access arrangements for boys taking the subject;
o Helping with the processing of paperwork for record keeping, in Trials and throughout the academic year;
o Leadership of the department in preparing for all external inspections;
o Attendance at all parents' meetings to answer questions about the subject at Harrow;
o Assisting in the planning, promoting and staffing of academic trips for boys;
o Responsibility for the departmental section of the School's internal and external websites, and the provision of departmental reading lists and other resources on Firefly and other learning platforms; and
o Involvement in the Rugby Group meetings for the subject or in similar groupings of teachers in the independent sector.
· PREPARING BOYS FOR FURTHER STUDY OF THE SUBJECT BEYOND HARROW
o Responsibility for the provision of university advice, Oxbridge preparation classes and practice interviews for all candidates for courses involving the subject;
o Responsibility for determining predicted grades for boys in UCAS and the oversight of the contribution of the Masters in the department to the UCAS process;
o Preparation of the department's entries in all curriculum brochures; and
o Responsibility for Super-Curricular provision in the subject and the promotion of Electives to be offered by Masters in the department both related and unrelated to the subject.
· FINANCIAL AND PRACTICAL OVERSIGHT OF THE DEPARTMENT
o Management of the departmental budget: calculating and submitting budget bids, ordering teaching materials and equipment required in the department, monitoring spending in the department and accounting for it through the Director of Studies to the Bursar;
o Ensuring that all teachers of the subject have the necessary resources, by processing book orders, providing equipment, and ensuring that the departmental schemes of work are constantly up to date for all year groups;
o Responsibility for all Health and Safety matters in the department, including the completion of regular audits with the support of the Health & Safety Manager, and ensuring compliance with the School's Health and Safety Policy; and
o Responsibility, sometimes shared with other Heads of Subject and always supported by the Head of Estates & Grounds, for the form rooms in which the subject is taught.

· Managed, led, and delivered high quality rugby coaching sessions to all age groups, 6 -13 year olds, during game sessions
· Developed an innovated rugby curriculum to instruct individual students, small groups, teams, and coaches

· Provided feedback to teams and coaches on a weekly basis to ensure the development of their teams

o To ensure appropriate adult cover, publishing a duty rota for the purpose including House staff and Tutors; ▪ To line manage and work closely with the Matron, who will be responsible for the domestic staff and play a major role in overseeing the health and welfare of the boys;

o Sourced and secured sponsorship for tours, staff kit, refereeing attire, specialised equipment and lighting for the main rugby pitch

Program Leadership
• Contribute to the development of a Strategic Plan to ensure the ongoing success of the School's Rugby program
• Ensure that the program is conducted in accordance with School policies and applicable laws and regulations
• Oversee the planning and organisation of training, camps and logistical arrangements for attendance at home and away competitions
• Provide regular reports on the Rugby program to the School Community Coaching Program
• In partnership with the School's Human Resources department, recruit, support and manage all coaches for all teams
• Ensure the highest standard of sportsmanship is maintained by staff, students and parents
• Hold regular coaching meetings and ensure coaching staff are actively engaged in professional development
• Structure a program for all student players and involve and monitor the coaches within this program
• Establish skill development programs for all players, commensurate with their experience and capabilities
• Manage team selection in consultation with coaching staff Professional Development
• Support a commitment to professional development through personal example including critical self-evaluation
• In partnership with the Human Resources department, ensure that all staff engaged in coaching and rugby administration and support roles are appropriately trained and qualified for their roles
Community Engagement
• Act as the principal liaison officer between the School and the KWS Rugby Club (community supporter group) Budget Management
• Manage the finances of the program in accordance with the School's published policies and procedures
