Band 6 Safeguarding Support Midwife

Since becoming a fully qualified midwife in 2021, I have had experience in many different aspects of maternity care. This includes antenatal, labour/recovery and postnatal care.

Below highlights the experience I have had in these areas:

Antenatal

  • Community midwifery
  • Midwife in a specialist clinic that supported families who had experienced bereavements in previous pregnancies e.g multiple miscarriages, abortions following a diagnosis of a high risk pregnancy, neonatal deaths and still births

Labour/intrapartum care

  • Labour ward midwife that supported women in low and risk pregnancies
  • Experience working in theaters, recovery and high dependency unit following birthing complications e.g APH/PPH, sepsis etc

Postnatal

  • Community midwifery
  • Supporting families with a smooth transition into parenthood
  • Identifying safeguarding concerns prior to discharge and facilitating in complex discharges
  • Providing round the clock care to patients with multiple complexities both medical and social

Current role

Currently, I am a band 6 safeguarding support midwife is to facilitate the learning of safeguarding and midwifery skills through supervision, teaching and
support. I have worked collaboratively with other MDT's to ensure the well being of children/families. Collaboration is often carried out in meetings such as MARAC's, strategy meetings, professional meetings and child protection conferences.
