I am a conscientious and motivated 19 year old who is eager to kick start my career in the electrical engineering field. I have from a early age set my sights on working within the engineering sector. during my time in high school I choose as many subjects as possible that had some relevance to engineering both practical and theory based. I also achieved a Nat 5 pass in construction crafts from the local collage whilst in 3rd and 4th year of high school. It was through doing the electrical modules of this course that I firmly cemented my passion to work within this industry.
I did in fact secure secure an electrical apprenticeship within the NHS estates department but through no fault of their own they were unable to provide enough relevant practical experiences needed to complete the course. Although I was very disappointed at the lack of electrical based jobs I did gain valuable experience in pat testing, essential safety checks (fire alarm and exit checks and ladder safety checks) and on load generator testing, as well as in person communication throughout the whole of the Lochaber NHS estate buildings (GP surgeries, nursing homes ect). Most days i was required to independently travel within the Lochaber NHS area to undertake safety testing and elementary electrical jobs and filling in any reports after the testing or work had been completed.
Despite the fact that the apprenticeship did not provide a 100% positive experience, it has not dampened my desire to achieve my goals.
I enjoy keeping myself fit I do this by being part in a local Shinty team and also going to the gym, running and golf.
I am looking for an apprenticeship that will provide the challenges and training that I require for a career within the engineering/electrical environment. I believe that my willingness to learn along with hard work and dedication I will be an asset to SSE in the future.
My job involves driving side loaders front loaders and Kalmar's. I have also done safety training on manual handling and fire safety training. I am also open to doing overtime when I am asked to.
My first year in the position I attended collage full time. After my time in collage and I was back on site my main tasks were essential safety checks/tests and elementary electrical jobs.
This was a summer job where I was manually restacking wood and clearing the work area at the end of day.
