  • I have gained some insight into a mental health career as a support worker and also as a carer. I had different experiences working with service users with learning disability, associated complex needs and behaviours that may challenge, who are at different stages of their care pathway. The role includes interacting with the patients as well as carrying out errands to meet their needs. In some occasions, I assist clients with their day-to-day meals, planning their activities, this aimed to help them with their mental health and wellbeing. I developed skills in communication through being polite and meeting the needs of clients/service users. I learned to use documentation when working with clients as each individual client has a care plan that we use to write their daily notes such as personal care, activities and appointments with doctors. This helps the other employees during handover because they will know how to help the clients based on the documentation I have written. This has taught me the importance of communication and teamwork as it contributes to successfully support people with special needs.

INTERESTS & HOBBIES

In my spare time, I enjoy socializing and meeting new people and also learning new skills from others. I regularly go bike riding and swimming to keep my body fit. I have a passion for fashion. I also like devoting my time to help people by volunteering.

Accomplishments

  • I have an unregistered organisation which provides support for children in the streets and orphans in the orphanages. Myself and my team have successfully raised £500 with groceries, books and food items for the needy. I developed various skills during this project which I believe it will be beneficial for this position.
  • I used my innovation thinking to come with a plan to raise the money which I used for donation. I used my critical thinking to come up with a way to raise the money. I went to churches to sing by making the people aware that the money raised will be used for the benefits of the orphans in Ghana. I have to communicate effectively to the congregation to be able put my message across. During the project, I had to use my networking skills to reach out to churches who gave me the permission to sing. In addition, I was able to reach out to people to collect unwanted cloths which I shipped back to Ghana. Because of my hard work and resilience, I was able to raise £500 which I donated to All Nation Orphanage Home at Kumasi-Ghana in September 2018. This shows my support to needy children and availing myself to help them.
