i have worked at a short stay medical ward where patients are expected to be admitted for less than 5 days, I undertake a range of nursing duties to support patients
Patients treated within the ward include post-operative and pre-operative patients, medical short stay patients - a very wide range of patient conditions and patient needs. Currently working as a staff nurse at an emergency surgical unit, i am always assigned to a bay and my duties are to administer medications using the the right routes of medication administration. I also support patients with their personal hygiene care whilst promoting their independence and always putting them at the Centre of their care. I act as an advocate for my patients ,ensuring that their needs are met. i always offer help to my team when a need arises.
Key achievements:
I developed my skills set to include Cannulation, Medication Management, IV Fluid Administration, admitting and discharging patients
Developed strong working relationships with my colleagues in the multi-disciplined team, becoming an integral part of the ward team, supporting colleagues as needed
I consistently deliver a high standard of quality nursing care to patients in the ward
Duties include:
Assessing, planning, implementation, evaluation of patient's conditions
Closely monitoring patient care and treatments to ensure patient wellbeing
Escalating incidents and areas of concert to the nurse in charge
Undertake close monitoring of a patient if deemed necessary
Document incidents on Datix and clearly update patient records of care
Working as part of a multi-disciplined team made up of nurses, Doctors, housekeepers, practitioners, trauma co-ordinators, ward clerk, physiotherapists, social workers
Supervising and escorting patient visitors within the ward
Control and administration of drugs (intravenously and oral) to patients ensuring that NHS, NMC, hospital regulations and guidelines are adhered to
Help identify activities or actions which could enhance patient care within the Ward
Undertake training as necessary to enhance my skill set and quality of care provided.
