Audits & Quality Improvement Projects

May 2025 – Audit on Urinary Catheter Use in Acute Stroke Patients (CATS 11901)

  • Aim: To assess whether urinary catheter use in stroke patients is clinically appropriate and
    Evaluate adherence to NICE guidelines on catheterisation.
  • Majority of the data collection, analysis, and interpretation was conducted independently,
    demonstrating initiative and ownership of the project. Findings identified gaps in clinical justification and documentation standards, highlighting opportunities for quality improvement.
  • Presented audit outcomes to the Stroke Team during a department meeting attended by junior doctors, consultants, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Received positive feedback from the Clinical Lead and recommendations for future implementation.

03/12/2022 – Improving Competency in Venepuncture Among Medical Students

  • Aim: To enhance the clinical confidence and procedural competence of medical students in
    performing venepuncture through structured teaching.
  • Used a self-report pre- and post-intervention self-assessment survey to assess the impact of
    targeted teaching sessions.
  • Supported recommendations for a structured peer-led teaching programme to improve clinical
    skills training.

Elective Courses

During my education, in addition to the mandatory subjects, I pursued various electives to broaden my clinical knowledge and skills in diverse areas of medicine. They are as follows: 

1. Emergency Medicine

I gained foundational knowledge in identifying and managing common medical emergencies through hands-on clinical experience. Additionally, I practised core resuscitation skills by participating in simulated basic life support (BLS) stations, focusing on immediate, team-based patient care.

2. Tropical Medicine 

Explored tropical diseases, with a focus on Taeniases and Cysticercosis, culminating in a case study essay for the same. 

3. Ultrasound Diagnostics in Gastroenterology 

Observed doctors diagnosing gastrointestinal conditions using ultrasound technology. 

4. Molecular Biology in Medicine

Discussed the latest developments in current molecular biology research, which is enabling advancements in clinical practice, and the elective culminated in the delivery of a comprehensive presentation on 'An Evaluation of the Clinical Significance of AFP and CA-125 in Cancer Prognosis and Diagnosis'.

5. Neurosciences, Fundamental and Clinical Psychopharmacology 

Wrote an essay on Dopamine in neuroscience, its role as a neurotransmitter involved in schizophrenia and the role of antipsychotic drugs in neuropsychopharmacology. 

6. Neurobiology 

Delivered a comprehensive presentation on Neuromuscular Synapse and Myasthenia Gravis, highlighting current research and clinical approaches.

 

7. Current Issues of Nutrition in Healthy and Sick Individuals 

Critically appraised research on the association between nutritional status and dengue severity in Thai children, producing an abstract and analysis. 

8. Breastfeeding Support 

Developed skills in providing breastfeeding education and support to new mothers in a clinical setting. 

9. First Aid 

Presented on basic first aid interventions and triaging, focusing on practical applications in emergency scenarios and wrote a comprehensive essay on First Aid in Poisoning.
