Work History

Cover Supervisor

Supply Desk
Cardiff, CRF
09.2019 - 08.2020
  • Oversaw students in classroom, halls and gymnasiums to monitor, enforce rules and support lead teacher.
  • Supported student learning objectives through personalised and small group assistance to support classroom instruction.
  • Supported Key Stage 3 students throughout lessons, particularly in a three month period in which I covered Welsh lessons for a teacher on leave, which was invaluable in learning ways in which to aid improvement.
  • Utilised skills in behaviour management to aid positive, productive classroom environments for optimal learning conditions.
  • Utilised expert behaviour management techniques to carefully manage disruptive classroom conduct.
  • Working for a company such as Supply Desk gave me the opportunity to sample the life and procedures of many different schools, including, Ysgol Gyfun Llanhari, Ysgol Gyfun Glantaf and for the best part of the school year in Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni.
  • Moving around the different school for my first months employed by Supply Desk gave me invaluable experience in working with children from all different backgrounds and abilities.
  • Working in Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni for the best part of 6 months before the outbreak of COVID-19 was most invaluable as I was given more opportunities including; being a form tutor to a year 7 class for a full term and being given the chance to teach Welsh from the syllabus for the term as a teacher was on leave.

Volunteer Teacher

Think Pacific
Fiji, Wainibuka
06.2019 - 07.2019
  • Through this unique experience I followed objectives set by the charity Think Pacific in order to achieve holistic health, through education, advocacy and sports development.
  • Collaborated with the schools teachers to supply them with ways of improving interactive learning in the classroom due to their very low funding in supplies which in turn improved the engagement of all students.
  • Helped students learn to persevere with challenging tasks and build resilience for later educational efforts.
  • Ensured students received feedback with emphasis on learning from mistakes to establish solid foundation for progress.
  • This unique and invaluable experience put into perspective how far the education system has come in our country, and how lucky we truly are to have the resources we have compared to those less fortunate than us in other parts of the world.
  • Consequently this forced us into using simpler and more interactive learning methods for particularly slower learning children.
  • On the expedition, what went hand in hand with education was sports coaching. As a keen rugby player I thrived in the opportunity to coach children aged ranging from 4-15. This in turn has inspired me to want to do my WRU coaching badges when next made available to do after the pandemic.

Hobbies and Interests

  • From the age of 10, rugby has been my main point of interest in my spare time. Playing as part of a team from a young age, I have learned valuable skills that have become ingrained in my personality. I believe playing as part of a team, working towards a common goal is invaluable in any workplace, especially in the education sector. Having represented Boys Club of Wales at Under 16's level and Crawshays XV at Under 18's level, I have been forced to work as part of a team with other players from across the country and consequently having the need to communicate clearly and efficiently at very short notice. Captaining the Physics and History rugby team in Cardiff University was particularly challenging and rewarding, being a student led society I took on responsibilities of devising training, organizing matches and coordinating the league for the university. This taught me great organisational skills but more importantly leadership skills. I learned through this experience that no one individual is the same, and the way in which you talk to individuals is crucial in the teams collective morale, togetherness and success. I believe this applies in all walks of life as not one individual is the same to the next.
