Royal Children's Hospital

Volunteer
Melbourne
10.2019 - 06.2022

Outside of my professional career, I am personally passionate about working with children and child welfare. Once a week, I go to the Royal Children's Hospital to care for and play with children whose parents are unable to be at their bedside or need a break and I was there to relieve them.

In this role, I would be called to rooms on different wards. In these rooms, I would either play one-on-one with the children, from card games or with dolls and toys, arts and crafts, or sometimes with the smaller babies that could not leave the rooms I would give them cuddles. I was also allowed to take them around parts of the hospital, so I would take them on walks to see the fish tanks, meerkats, and to the starlight room. Sometimes they would put me in the surgery ward where I would go find the parents and take them to their children's after surgery.

This unique and sometimes challenging environment allows me the perspective and importance of giving back to the community through even the smallest of acts.
