National Events Manager

Glasgow
06.2004 - 12.2013
  • Responsible for delivering a portfolio of challenge events with an income target of £0.5m and recruitment target of over 200 participants
  • Line management of two
  • My role during this time included taking new events from conception to delivery, planning and delivering the marketing and promotional strategy for them, managing relationships with key sponsors and suppliers and ensuring the live event ran smoothly
  • Also managing existing external events and relationships and developing them in order that they become established events in Maggie's calendar. Events included:
  • Monster Bike & Hike – in 2004, its first year, the target was to recruit 500 participants and raise £250,000. With an external logistics manager, I managed all logistic elements of the event, recruitment of and communication with participants and delivery of the event, on budget and on time. The event raised £640,000 and over 800 people took part. By 2013, the event was in its 9th year and had raised nearly £5 million for Maggie's. I established and managed the main sponsor relationship (SSE, 3 years) and established excellent relationships with all 3rd party suppliers involved. As a team event it was heavily targeted at companies, with one of my responsibilities being to identify and build relationships with potential supporters and sponsors. It became Maggie's flagship event in Scotland.
    • Glasgow & Edinburgh Night Hikes – new events taken from conception to delivery, planning with the local council and suppliers, identifying the most appropriate markets to target the event to and establish relationships with new sponsors. In their first year, 400 people took part raising almost £100,000.

I also had responsibility for the marketing campaigns, budgets, income and recruitment of Maggie's participants in running events including London Marathon, Edinburgh Marathon and the Great North Run.
