I have worked in various roles within Harley-Davidson for the past 22 years. This has allowed me to both build on my existing skills and obtain new skills, whilst providing the highest level of customer experience. I enjoy working in an environment where people are passionate about their product, and would like to continue to use the skills I have, such as team-working, knowledge of parts systems and time management, in a new role.
Since starting at Harley-Davidson, I have been lucky enough to have various roles within the company. Initially, I was employed as a Sales Advisor. This role enabled me to learn, and become even more enthusiastic, about the Harley products and lifestyle. I was able to help people realise their dreams of becoming a Harley owner and I really enjoyed helping people to accessorise their new bikes with after-market parts, which made it a natural next step for me to move into the Parts department.
I started in Parts as an assistant, and thrived in building my knowledge of the Parts catalogue, knowing what part would fit on certain models of bikes, and helping customers find the most suitable options for their requirements, be that the best looking bit, the best sounding, or to get the best performance during their ride. I was soon promoted to Parts Manager, where I embraced the increase in responsibility, with my duties including supplying parts to technicians in line with their upcoming jobs and ability; stock control; job card loading; answering and dealing with incoming phone calls and emails; and overall keeping the customers and my colleagues happy.
A couple of years ago, the Service Lead position became available, and I felt that with the skill set that I had acquired with Harley so far, this was a good move for me. In my current role, I assist with workshop loading, which includes assessing and communicating with the technicians to ensure the right person is allocated to that particular job; confidently using schematics to obtain the correct part numbers and identifying which supplier to use; help plan and arrange deliveries and collections for our van drivers, as well as being a standby van driver to cover staff absence and in times of additional workload; partake in customisation projects of bikes; liaising with the parts department for timescales so that this can be relayed to the customer to keep them informed; booking in services, MOTs, and other workshop jobs; competently using the computer and the various systems we use; and keeping up to date with manufacturer online training.
