DC Operations Manager

  • From a temporary contract in the Distribution department, I have taken on extra responsibility and skill and worked through from colleague through the team to Operations Manager giving me a unique view of the DC and processes
  • The role is all encompassing and as a senior manager for the site, I cover all aspects from data analysis, stock control, planning labour and workload to people and performance management including absence and under-performing colleagues.
  • My WMS knowledge, especially of the end to end stock movements and demand by channel, is critical to my role. I work closely with the Shift Supervisors, Desk Controllers and the Demand and Storage Supervisor to ensure the correct stock to the correct pickface /channel in the correct volume at the correct time. An example of this is allocations and Xmas skus in home shopping, which sees an increase in sku volume of circa 15% just in Christmas lines.
  • I embody our LLDP methodologies ensuring the Plan-Do-Review process is used in line with multiple reporting documents to ensure SLA and KPI’s are achieved or surpassed driving safety, productivity and cost improvements
  • I continually review processes and systems using CI techniques, to look for enhancements that will aid efficiency or performance of colleagues or task and then work closely with stakeholders to deliver these

Profit Centre Manager

  • I started with Ashtead Plant Hire as a Rental Manager in Stockton and moved quickly through the company to become a Profit Centre Manager in Kendal in 2004 and in Manchester in 2007
  • As a Profit Centre Manager I was responsible for compiling the budget each year & once agreed, delivering upon it - the equipment within my control was worth up to £10m & the turnover was approx. £1-2m per annum
  • The customers I managed ranged across many industries but included large petro-chemical sites like ICI where HSE, HMRC, Environmental, Safety and compliance standards were high and enforced. I ensure we adhered to all compliance elements on site and would audit we delivered as minimum the regulatory elements of working on these huge multi compliant sites
  • My initial role was managing our inventory and plant purchasing, deliveries and stock checks along with customer service aspects of the role, which I retain and use today when dealing with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.

  • This role started as a YTS workshop admin clerk covering mainly office duties, but I’ve always prided myself on learning and adapting to my environment
  • I was a responsible for managing shut downs in highly regulated and HMRC compliant petro-chem sites-working alongside the senior stake holders ie site managers, I ensured we understood and adhered to all regulations in processes, and handling of petro-chemicals
  • I successfully managed a large team of drivers and hire clerks who covered a significant area from Sellafield to Nottingham.
  • Other responsibilities of note include Transport co-ordinator and Shut Down Plan co-ordinator for up to 3 month secondment at multiple sites during overhaul periods. This required liaison with muti site managers and engaging with many departments across multiple seniority levels

Hobbies and Interests

I live with my wife, one of my daughters Bella the dog. I’m a grandfather to two beautiful grandchildren Ivy and Albie, In my younger days I was a keen sportsman and liked participating in all sports especially cricket and football but these days I tend to watch from the comfort of my settee., I enjoy cooking and love a day at the horse races and watching Liverpool win the league (again!)
