My name is Gareth McKibben, I am a 25 year-old recently qualified teacher having attended Liverpool John Moores University, completing a Primary PGDE (5-11 years), qualifying in June 2023. Prior to that, I graduated from St Mary's University College, Belfast with a Second Class Honours, First Division in BA Liberal Arts: Physical Education.
I have a keen interest in sports and exercise, alongside working with other people to reach common goals and achieve as a team. I currently participate in a team sport, Gaelic Football. I feel this has a strong correlation with my role as a teacher and helps children and young people, as well as school staff, to grow and learn.
I have always thrived upon taking leadership roles both academically and through sport. I have captained many sports teams and take pride in having a responsibility role within a team. Although I have recently just qualified, I have previously taken control of PE and sport within my placement schools. This allowed me to offer my knowledge and experience within this area of learning and it also gave me the experience of taking responsibility within the school setting.
As well as this, I have a range of experience through coaching sport in my local GAA clubs and local primary schools. Being able to do this in both sports clubs and school environments I feel provides me with a vast range of experiences, skills and qualities.
Overall, I feel that I am an extremely well-motivated young man who always strives to better myself and help others along the way. My teaching style reflects a positive, engaging and holistic education experience that leads to academic and social progression, boosting the confidence, knowledge and the life skills of the children who I teach and lead in an educational environment.
