Led the expansion of the data team from 3 to 7 direct report (data engineers), while delivering for the Data Hub on a variety of projects relating to various things the police force needed us to do. This included projects to set up live facial recognition feeds for the new vans being deployed not only to identify criminals but to identify the missing and vulnerable. I also led the teams daily huddle where we discussed priorities and who was doing what and if anyone needed technical support. Did the majority of the heavy lifting on a business case to move to MS Fabric for the Chief Officer Team to make a decision on improving the infrastructure. I also created the Data Products Working Group and set up Standard Operating Procedures for how to request data products. The organisation is a Microsoft shop and so my team and I work with Azure, SQL Server to store the data and SSMS to write and deploy SQL. Part of my role is to make the process of democratising data easier and explaining the technical in simple ways for non-technical colleagues, which is I believe is a key strength of mine.
Took a sabbatical as the market for data leaders was fairly slow
Led Data Engineering in the UK and subsequently took on responsibility for BI. Had eight direct reports and was responsible for directing their workloads and leading daily scrum. Data engineering involved inheriting thousands of scheduled jobs that run daily that used Python, bash scripting, SQL Server, and used scheduling and deployment tools such as Octopus as well as repositories in Azure Dev Ops. The role was player/manager so I had to coach and mentor the team but also get my own hands on code to deliver data products
Overall accountability for development of BI strategy, for UK Retail and Business Banking Collections & Recoveries (C&R) and Barclays Business Servicing. Facilitating access to intelligence through IBM Cognos, which is used by thousands of users to make better informed decisions to improve organisations P&L. Responsibility was extended beyond C&R due to successful transformation.
Overall accountability for the development of BI strategy, for UK Retail and Business Banking Collections & Recoveries (C&R). Principle objective was to stabilise and rationalise a severely unstable SAS reporting environment and provide an effective decision making capability.
