I am a compassionate and empathic nurse who cares deeply about the people around me, patients and colleagues alike. I feel this role is an opportunity for me to display these core values and develop further in my career, in an area I have always wanted to work in. I hope to support, teach and enable my future peers and students to discover their own core values and encourage them to apply them to their individual professional journeys.
After qualifying with a 2:1 BSc, I began working on a busy general medical ward. I worked here for a year before I started as a community nurse in 2017. I worked for 2 years as part of a large team covering two towns. In 2019 I secured my role as caseload manager and have held this position for 6 years.
Within my current team, I also hold the position of TVN link nurse. This involves working closely with the TVN team and attending monthly webinars to gain up to date evidence based information about wounds and wound healing. In the community, we use the software WoundMatrix to measure a wounds progress using weekly photographs and a measuring tool. I am currently the WoundMatrix champion within the team, which means it is my responsibility to teach new staff members how to use the software. I deliver regular training sessions to my team members to ensure they use the software correctly.
An area of nursing I have always felt passionate about is wound care. Caring for patients with wounds, whether chronic or acute, is a large part of community nursing and something that is part of every working day in my role. I recognise it is important to take a holistic approach to wound management and look at the patient as a whole rather than just the wound they have. I always encourage my team to try and thinking broadly when it comes to our patients with chronic wounds. My understanding of wound management and care has developed exponentially over my nursing career. I look forward to the opportunity to develop this interest further and start my journey into a TVN specialism.
