Jam Coding is a provider of computer training to children aged 6-12. As Assistant coach I worked with small groups of children, teaching them the basics of coding to progress their ability and understanding of the software and develop problem solving abilities. Using my own knowledge and experience of coding and ICT I was able to support their learning and help them build confidence. After a year as Assistant coach, I was promoted to Head coach; my increased responsibilities included Safeguarding and developing the program of activities.
In this employment my customer service and communication core skills were key and I enjoyed working in a customer facing role. Some key responsibilities were serving required medication for the animals, I would take over some phone calls at reception which really improved my communication and confidence. I also handled challenging situations with ease at a fast pace working environment.
Working as a mentor in my previous secondary school helped me further develop my critical thinking skill. I would organise group discussions promoting problem solving skills amongst the students. I hosted regular one-on-one coaching sessions which helped my students really open up to me so i could further support them with any worries, which also improved their confidence.
