Project – Study of inclusion of Emerald

• Studied the geographic difference in elemental composition using LA-ICP-MS and inclusion in Emerald (for example, three-phase inclusion in Emerald from Zambia) using photomicrography

Project 1 - Ti(IV) complex bearing tridentate [O,N,C(alkyl)] ligand for olefin polymerization

• Modified synthesis route and successfully synthesized tridentate ligands via 8 steps, involving use of organolithium reagent and Suzuki coupling reaction
• Synthesized air-/moisture sensitive Ti(IV) catalysts for polymerization using standard Schlenk and glovebox technique, characterized using 1H, 13C, 19F NMR spectroscopy, and 2-D NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction study and investigated their catalytic activity
• Analyzed polymers formed using gel permeation chromatography (GPC)

Project 2 - Metal-Metal interaction of shape-persistent bis-Zn(II) salphen catalyst for CO2 coupling

• Developed a new synthesis route and successfully synthesized salphen precursors using organolithium reagent
• Synthesized shape-persistent bis-Zn(II) salphen catalyst and characterized catalysts using 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, 2-D NMR spectroscopy, ESI-MS and X-ray diffraction study following investigation of their activity toward CO2 coupling

Project - Study of metal-free borylation from N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) ring-expansion

• Synthesized highly reactive B2eg2 with high purity using sublimation
• Searched for ideal reaction condition of NHCs ring-expansion reaction using B2eg2 by NMR scale reaction, followed by large-scale synthesis
• Characterized ring-expansion product using 1H and 11B NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction study
• Collaborated with research teams to develop project plans aligned with target timescales.
