Twenty nine years in Strathclyde Police/Police Scotland, 16 years of which as a Sergeant and one year as Inspector. Numerous deployments to various departments and divisions over my service resulting in a broad skill set and experience base. Specific career focus towards Road Policing with over a decade served in this training heavy role resulting in qualifications relevant to this applied for position, namely Advanced Police Driver and Security Escort Driver. Trained in basic maintenance, repairs and vehicle examination.


Trained in First Aid at Work (FAWS) for last 12 years with refresher training every 3 years.

  • 10 years in Road Policing (Traffic) where I qualified as an Advanced Police Driver, Security Escort Driver and Venue Protection Officer, as well as numerous qualifications in vehicle examination, crash analysis and legislative enforcement methods.
  • Provided rescue efforts in numerous serious and fatal traffic collisions and carried out full investigations into same resulting in criminal prosecutions and Fatal Accident Enquiries based on my findings and subsequent reports.
  • 10 years as a Duty Officer/Custody Sgt where I had overarching responsibility for the safety, security and welfare of persons in custody. Additionally I held the responsibility of deciding the most suitable disposal for said persons in relation to granting them their liberty or holding them in custody for subsequent presentation to the courts. This role required me to manage risk with care to enable due legal process to be followed whilst ensuring the wellbeing of all prisoners and staff.
  • Kept up-to-date on the latest laws, procedures and investigation best practices through continuous training.
  • Maintained strict confidentiality through careful and correct storage of case documents, in line with internal policies.
  • Responded quickly to emergency situations, leading calm and effective negotiations with suspects to diffuse highly charged situations.
