Francesca Perelli

Bishop's Stortford,Hertfordshire

Summary

I am an MA History graduate from Anglia Ruskin University. Passed with distinction with a dissertation on London during the 1940s, with a particular focus on London and its Metropolitan Borough of Hampstead during the Second World War. I am especially interested in researching social and cultural history, and in both macro- and micro-history, examining how different factors interact with each other.

I am highly skilled in archival research, which I am continuing up to the present moment, on the conservation of historically valuable buildings, in collaboration with academic staff at Anglia Ruskin University.

Aside from my studies and professional experience, I enjoy outdoor activities, such as going for long walks and hikes, reading around many various topics, including those about wildlife and natural spaces: I believe strongly in the constant improvement of my knowledge, and am particularly fascinated by topics such as how the natural and constructed environment can influence individual experience. I enjoy writing, and have an affinity for antique items and books.

Work history

Student ambassador

Anglia Ruskin University
Cambridge , Cambridgeshire
2022.09 - 2022.10
  • I interacted with both prospective students and new undergraduate students, welcoming them to the campus and acting as the 'face' of the university.
  • I took on an advisory role towards the students: giving directions to help them to get around the university campus and the wider city, in addition to answering their questions regarding everyday university life-accommodation, planning study schedules, and informing them of university societies based on their individual interests.
  • The role also involved teamwork with fellow student ambassadors and with both academic and non-academic staff, coordinating our activities with one another and making sure we kept on track.
  • This job required me to effectively balance my full-time Master's degree study course with it, proving that I am able to adapt and to work flexibly.

SHoKE Student Consultant

Anglia Ruskin University
Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
2022.05 - 2022.07
  • SHoKE= Students at the Heart of Knowledge Exchange
  • I took on the role of management consultant in the summer of 2022, working under the guidance of the Nous Group: an international management consultancy group, with branches in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and North America.
  • The project consisted of each team member completing independent, original research into an assigned topic over the course of two weeks and writing up a report on their major findings, before sharing these with the group in order to create a final combined PowerPoint presentation to present to a client in July.
  • Effective time management and planning skills were vital to the successful completion of this role.
  • Improved my teamwork skills, particularly the ability to listen and learn from my peers, and from the constructive feedback of my group leader on how to improve my work.
  • I worked in groups of six and 140 students respectively, improving my ability to work in both small and large groups.
  • Title of our project: 'Planning for Safer and Inclusive Places for Women and Girls: A Consideration for Women's Safety', presented to members of the Essex County Council and the Cambridge County Council.
  • My two areas of specialism were case studies and best practices, thus helping me to develop the practical application of my research into the everyday lives of women and girls.
  • This enabled me to greatly improve my communication and presentation skills, as a couple of practice research and presentation topics were held before our final one before the Councils in July, on youth engagement and climate change.
  • Awarded the Student Consultant badge by the Cambridge County Council, in recognition of excellent teamwork and consulting skills.
  • I take special pride in this achievement, knowing that I made a real positive impact on some very pertinent issues in today's society, which the Councils will take into consideration when designing new urban spaces.
