I worked as a Medical Officer in a 30-bedded private hospital in Lagos, working 24-hour shifts on alternate days and providing care in outpatient clinics, A&E, and antenatal services. Worked closely with in-house consultants across paediatrics, medicine, surgery, and obstetrics. Responsibilities included clerking, examining, investigating, and managing patients from neonates to the elderly, as well as pre- and postoperative care. Conducted daily ward rounds, performed key procedures (including IV access, suturing, catheterisation, NG tube insertion, lumbar puncture, umbilical cannulation, and exchange transfusion), and assisted in major surgical procedures such as hysterectomies, myomectomies, caesarean sections, appendectomies, prostatectomies, and exploratory laparotomies. Provided counselling to patients on diagnosis, treatment plans, progress, and lifestyle modifications.
Completed a one-year internship ( FY1 and FY2 equivalent ) at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, rotating for 12 weeks each through Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Surgery, with all competencies signed off.
