I am a motivated and compassionate Mental Health Nursing student at the University of Brighton, with a strong foundation in health and social care developed during my studies at Itchen Sixth Form College and Achimota Basic School, where I completed voluntary hospital placements and gained practical experience supporting individuals
with a variety of mental and physical health needs. During my academic studies, I have developed a thorough understanding of the biopsychosocial model, trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented practice, and the legal and ethical frameworks underpinning mental health services, including the Mental Health Act 1983, which have informed my approach to safe and effective patient care. Alongside my studies, I have worked at Melcom Supermarket, where I gained invaluable transferable skills in teamwork, leadership, organisation, communication, and resilience. This role required me to work collaboratively under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously,
maintain high levels of professionalism, and provide excellent service, all of which have strengthened my ability to operate effectively in high-demand healthcare environments. My clinical and care experience spans a wide range of settings, including forensic mental health, older adult inpatient wards, CAMHS A&E liaison, crisis resolution home treatment teams, Lighthouse Mental Health Recovery Team, and private care homes. Across these placements, I have delivered safe, person-centred, and
recovery-focused care to children, adults, and older adults with complex mental and physical health needs, including dementia, frailty, and acute mental health crises. I have conducted mental state examinations, contributed to risk assessments, implemented non-pharmacological and therapeutic interventions, and supported
recovery-oriented care plans. I have also carried out enhanced 1:1 observations, assisted with supervised clinical procedures such as PEG feeding, catheterisation, and tracheostomy care, and gained insight into medication management through depot clinics and acute ward exposure. Through these experiences, I have developed strong
communication and interpersonal skills, enabling me to build therapeutic relationships with patients while maintaining professional boundaries, and I have worked collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care, patient safety, and positive outcomes. Furthermore, I have applied safeguarding principles,
maintained confidentiality, and documented care accurately in line with professional and GDPR standards.
Collectively, these experiences have strengthened my clinical reasoning, reflective practice, resilience, and ability to manage challenging situations safely, preparing me to deliver high-quality, evidence-based, and recovery-focused
care as I transition confidently into a professional nursing role supporting individuals across the lifespan.
