Having played for 15 years, I feel as though I have a strong feeling of what it's like to operate in a high pressure performance environment where both wellbeing and performance optimisation are crucial in creating a fluid workplace
Sport Science Academy Intern
I completed an intensive 2.5-month placement at York City FC, working primarily with the U19 academy squad across Strength & Conditioning, return-to-sport rehabilitation, and on-field performance support, I shadowed the academy S&C Lead, who was incredible in ensuring I was given chances to learn acceptable techniques working with developmental athletes, while also ensuring I was comfortable in all tasks provided.
One of the most valuable aspects of the placement was assisting with players progressing through RTS protocols following injury. This experience strengthened my understanding of the physical and psychological demands placed on young athletes during rehabilitation, while developing my ability to support athlete monitoring, exercise progression, and effective communication within a performance environment. It also provided me with a strong foundation for supporting a range of athletes in both rehabilitation and performance-focused settings.
