  • I would record hearing outcomes for all cases in the magistrates court e.g. pleas, first hearings, breach of bail and warrants.
  • I would also dispatch bundles of case material to the courts and to the defence firm.
  • I was responsible for calculating Custody Time Limit expiry dates for defendants, whilst completing diaries and logs to ensure everything matches and is correct.
  • I would check and correct unauthorised charges, I would cross reference multiple documents to check the correct charges, and alter the system and liaise with the lawyer and the courts to update them.
  • I liaised with paralegals and the witness care unit to gather information for booking taxis, hotels, flights and childcare for victims and witnesses.
  • I would finalise and reactivate cases when necessary, making sure to use the correct codes to do so.

I would also respond to police with case updates, and receive requests from police to reactivate cases.
  • In our manager's absence, my team and I would send out bail applications to police for their views, and liaise with the lawyers on the case.
  • Some other tasks I would do on a daily basis include: password protecting sensitive material, triaging and allocating very urgent cases whereby the defendant is in custody, merging cases and updating several case logs.
  • On a weekly and monthly basis, I would fill out multiple logs and spreadsheets regarding our lawyers and paralegals case loads, and the types of cases we have received. These would be sent to my manager and would be taken up the line for consideration.

Travelling and volunteering

March-June 2025, I took a small break from working to pursue my dream of backpacking in Australia, Indonesia and Vietnam. I learned a lot about different cultures and ways of life during my trip that I am sure will stay with me forever. During my time in Vietnam, I did a volunteering experience in the North of Vietnam, at a children's summer camp, where I taught English to children aged 7-14. I also organised activities, games and sports days.
