Learning theory of what is involved in Nursing and getting attachment to hospitals settings to gain practical experience. During 3 years on nursing program did and still doing placements in Southmead hospital. I had experience of working in Surgical Vascular ward, Acute Theatre/Medirooms, Interventional Radiology/Surgical Radiology, Medical/Sroke Neurology, Bristol, North, Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) Vaccination program, Medical Surgery and Neurosurgery and Spines. Under the supervision of a Registered nurse, I have acquired skills I will mention and I am still progressing to further my learning and expertise. Taking of vital signs. Learned some medical terminology. Medicine administration follows the five rights. Nursing best practice following the code and the the seven platforms of future nurse. Being eight jobs in one person Care giver, Counsellor, Educator/Teacher, Communication, Advocate, Leader, Research Role, Collaborator. Documentation. I am currently a student Nurse I am working under the supervision of the registered nurse My university portfolio file has evidence of performing most of the duties that is carried out on the wards including theatres I did an in house training at Southmead hospital on how to perform airway management, CPR, and manual handling In my everyday job whilst on placement I prepare IV fluids some under supervision and no supervision I administer oral medications under supervision, and some I give via the peg or NG tube Connecting of stoma bags and referrals Working with multidisciplinary teams such as physios , OTs, dieticians, diabetes specialist nurses, stoma specialist nurses, doctors, pharmacist just to name of a few, all depends with the patient's needs I report deterioration to my mentor or phone hospital emergency number I give advice to the patients when their being discharged to avoid re-hospitalisation I work well with others and sharing knowledge with HCAs and nursing students in 2nd year and delegating appropriately I understand safe disposal of substances hazardous to health and practice effective control measures by wearing protective personal equipment and safe disposal I can carry out venepuncture and insert cannula and have done so under the supervision of RGN I am confident I will be able to be responsible for ensuring provision of a safe and therapeutic environment for all patients, relatives, visitors and colleagues
