I am an aspiring engineering student looking to garner further experience in the industry, particularly in a professional setting with an innovative, well-regarded company like Hitachi. The focus your company has towards sustainable development is of particular interest to me as this is a key factor in why I chose to study civil engineering in the first place and an ever growing priority as the population continues to grow and resources become more scarce. Although I do lack career experience, I have had many other opportunities to grow my understanding and harness my skills in this particular field, a prime example being group project work for my course in university as this has allowed me to put what I learn in my lectures into practice but also to gain confidence with things I have previously struggled with. Examples being public speaking and finding the best way to accurately convey my thoughts to people who have different ways of thinking and language capabilities so that a project can be carried out smoothly without issue. Furthermore, I have worked unofficially in a professional environment via acting as a volunteer teaching assistant for the secondary attached to my sixth form. Despite not being formal work, this developed a lot of the same skills such as requiring me to be good at following instructions, clear with my communication and ready to take on an authoritative position.
I have never been formally employed however I do have experience helping my mother draft plans for her own place of work, working on projects in an academic setting amongst peers and I have previously volunteered as a teaching assistant when I was in sixth form. I also underwent an online work experience course for architecture during sixth form that involved responding to hypothetical clients and designing for different scenarios.
I received an award for being the 'hardest worker' in my secondary art course due to the fact I stayed after school daily in order to ensure my work was complete to the best of my ability.
In sixth form I was told by my geography teacher that one of my mock exams was one of the 'best performances he had seen in years' by someone at my level.
For a university assignment I was required to do a perspective drawing of a building and was told that my attempt was 'perfect' and 'practically professional'.
