During school, I always put myself forwards for extra opportunities in order to develop independence and improve my self-confidence. I completed the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award, during which I volunteered at York Explore library, and completed National Citizens Service in the summer of 2019. During NCS I developed my teamwork skills when I spent two weeks planning and executing a social action project in a group, during which we raised £273.07 for the Snappy Trust, a non-profit organisation that works with children and young people with disabilities. We bought them toys and sports equipment with the money we raised and visited them in person to give them their new equipment, fix their bikes and interact with them.
In February 2020, I travelled to Germany with a few fellow students with no adult supervision to spend 10 days with a German family. While I was there, I spent a week in a German primary school, where I watched their lessons and spent lots of time interacting with the children. This experience allowed me to learn about important aspects of teaching that are visible regardless of the language barrier, such as non-verbal communication.
Throughout my PGCE, I have been developing a teaching philosophy centred around building positive, trusting relationships both with my pupils and my peers. By having a positive attitude to everything I do, I have been able to become confident in the classroom and consistently improve myself in all aspects of teaching.
