Excerpt from my annual performance review in November 2024
"Emma joined Clinical Coding in April of this year which was initially offered on a 12 month fixedterm basis. Joining a new team can often be intimidating and so we were thrilled that Emma pursued the opportunity of a permanent position with us back in July. She demonstrated a good level of insight into our department within a short space of time in regards to the systems we use and what is required to achieve Coding validation. Despite the majority of the team continuing to hybrid-work, Emma has integrated herself well. She has demonstrated an eagerness to learn more and develop within Coding which, as a Supervisor, shows a lot of promise. Clinical Coding is a challenging discipline and necessitates a willingness to perform regular research into medical conditions or procedures we are not familiar with (sometimes not at all!). As such Emma has access to numerous resources which will aid her in her daily work such as the dedicated ICD-10/OPCS-4 Manuals; the Scottish Clinical Coding Standards we receive twice a year; the ‘Coding Guides’ and ‘Coding Guides made at Lanarkshire’ folders on the shared R:Drive, and the extensive use of reliable sources on the internet. Her fellow team members and senior staff are there to help and support her with any concerns she has. Emma is scheduled to undertake her ICD-10 Foundation Course with PHS next month and her OPCS4 training will hopefully be arranged for some time in the early New Year." Jenna Martin
