Work history

Education Programme Officer

British Gymnastics
Durham
01.2021 - 12.2025
  • In my current role i lead a team of 4 responsible for planning and programming of all virtual course delivery within British Gymnastics, enabling over 2800 learners to access courses in 2024-2025. We support learners from the point of enrolment through to completion, allowing considerations to be made to ensure we are inclusive to all.
  • I focus on all areas of administration to ensure compliance and that a consistent, clear message is given to all. I've implemented new processes to enhance workflow efficiency and improve productivity. I ensure course and assessment information is transparent across the team, this ensures we work in a precise and connected manner
  • I analyse course data monthly, to review course fill rate, customer demand, and to plan for the following year. This allows me to be pro-active to the needs of the community, whilst also maximising income and expenditure.
  • In addition to my immediate team, i work closely with colleagues in Workforce, Safeguarding and Resources to share best practise and collaborate on new projects or improvements. I also coordinate the availability of over 50 members of workforce in tutoring, assessing, and hosting to ensure a quality and evenly spread programme is produced. I also support quality assurance and mentoring roles providing me with an in depth knowledge of different roles surrounding education.
  • I gather evidence to support our Safeguarding team in handling complaints, and review learner feedback to look for ways to improve.
  • I work closely with my immediate Manager and embrace the opportunity to support in projects or team development.

Regional Course Organiser

British Gymnastics
Durham
01.2010 - 01.2021
  • From 2010 until Covid i was a course organiser for British Gymnastics. This role involved the planning of all coaching courses in the North East of England, being responsible for ensuring course costs were covered, budgets were maintained and tutors and venues were booked and paid efficiently. I was also the point of contact for all coaches in the North of England should they have any queries or additional learning needs.
  • From 2018 i also took on the additional planning of some National courses, for example, our Level 2 Tumbling course would struggle to fill on any region, but by planning courses nationally we increased the fill rate and managed to qualify more coaches. This also set standards for the community, they would know to expect a course in the North in February, and one in the South in October. I also 'adopted' the Isle of Man, and worked closely with the two main gymnastics clubs there to be able to get their coaches qualified and again manage expectations by running two courses annually.
  • In 2019, in addition to this, i extended my region of the North of England to cover North Yorkshire, and built relationships with new clubs to ensure we could offer what they wanted whilst being mindful of budgets / work capacity and fill rate.
  • In 2020 when the Covid hit, i was furloughed as we couldn't run face to face course with lockdown and social distancing. The team that remained developed a 'virtual' course as the demand to get Level 1 coaches qualified was increasing with clubs facing many staffing and coaching changes. In March 2021 i returned and was moved to the course planning of Level 1 courses, this started with three of our 9 disciplines, and each time a new course was developed i was responsible to book a tutor and launch the course on our website, monitor the applications and meet the demand of our community. We were able to estimate how many courses we would need based on previous years data, but with the new courses being virtual and accessible to all the demand was much higher than expected. I thoroughly enjoyed being involved in a new project and working through problems associated with any new development, i found my passion for taking on a more senior role was re-ignited and i got heavily involved in the launch and maintenance of 11 courses we now run virtually. The role was more demanding with more responsibility than i had previously, and so an 'Officer' position was introduced for the virtual team to be more co-ordinated. I applied and was successful.

Administration Assistant

Durham University
Durham
01.2006 - 01.2010
  • In 2006 i had my second child and left Next plc.
  • I started work as an administrative assistant at Durham University, this role involved accounting, course confirmations and planning. My employer was Durham University, although i was working for British Gymnastics, and in 2010 the contract between Durham Uni and BG came to an end and i had to re-apply for my position. I was successful and became a 'Course Organiser'

Retail Assistant

NEXT
Newcastle upon Tyne
01.2004 - 01.2006
  • After several years working 'behind the scenes' in retail, i fancied a change and applied to be a retail assistant in Next. This role was based in the 'Home' department and involved supporting customers with their new furniture purchases as well as supporting other departments on the checkout when required.

Scheduling Administrator

Sainsbury's
Durham
01.2002 - 01.2004
  • I moved back to the store in Durham and took on a role of scheduling administrator, planning the schedules for over 100 employees based within the customer service department. These schedules were planned for 4 weeks in advance and needed regular updating due to sickness / shift swaps etc.

PA to Regional Manager

Sainsbury's
Newcastle upon Tyne
01.2000 - 01.2002
  • In 2000 i had my first child and decided moving back to the North East was the best for my family, i requested to step down to part time hours and accepted the position of PA to the Regional Manager based in Washington. Over the next two years i also acted as PA to Store Manager in Heaton, Newcastle.

Customer Service Manager (CSM)

Sainsbury's
Glasgow
01.1995 - 01.2000
  • When i left college, i opted to complete a trainee management scheme rather than go to University. I completed 18 months training and was then signed off to manage any department in the store. I was then involved in the implementation of a new computerised scheduling system (this was novel back in the day!) and responsible for the planning of and training of all managers in the North East of England. After this, i moved to Glasgow as a Customer Service Manager where i spent the next 3 years developing my knowledge and management experience to the point of regularly being left in charge of the store acting as Duty Manager.
