I am a compassionate and caring individual with a passion for helping others. I have held roles as a Children's nurse and Health Visitor and am currently working as a Practitioner Lecturer within higher education.
I have a vast amount of experience designing individualised plans for patients with various illnesses, promoting child development, health promotion and student studies. I can work closely with specialists within the multidisciplinary team and with care providers to ensure the best outcomes for children and their families are achieved. I pride myself in delivering the highest personal and professional care according to Nursing and Midwifery Council standards, making individual patient care a priority. I have good communication skills with staff, patients, children, and students in my current role. In my role as a practitioner lecturer, I am confident in having challenging conversations with students who may feel unhappy or are struggling with their studies. I can speak with students in a positive way and try to find a solution that will help them.
I work well as part of a team but also as an autonomous practitioner. Within my community nursing and Health Visitor roles I visited patients alone within their homes to offer treatment and support. I keep a strong working knowledge of local and national policies and guidelines including standard operating procedures to ensure my practice is safe and evidence based. When administering medications to patients I adhere to the British National Formulary and Medusa Guidelines to ensure safe administration. When I was administering the Covid 19 vaccine I ensured National Protocols and the Patient Group Directive were followed as well as assessing patients under Patient Specific Direction frameworks. Throughout my roles I am experienced with safeguarding policies and procedures. I have experience of writing conference reports and sharing these with families, professionals and at case conferences.
I am a friendly and skilled person with a comprehensive background in the sick child and well child. I am highly skilled at building trust and rapport with patients quickly to understand their needs focussing on helping patients live full, happy, and healthy lives. I can build long-term relationships with patients providing quality care and a knowledgeable service. This is highly important in my health visiting role when supporting new mother's and their babies. I am comfortable in high-pressure situations, making rapid and effective decisions.
I am competent using different IT systems and have experience of using RIO and System 1 to record various contacts with patients, completing assessment templates and documentation. During my current role as a lecturer, I use IT systems for teaching including canvas which holds all the module content, lesson plans and inputting students grades and marking. I am competent in using Microsoft teams, word and excel and keeping spreadsheets to monitor students' progress.
