Following my RGN training (march 1982 - March 1985) I worked as a staff nurse on an extremely busy general medical ward

I cared for patients with a variety of medical conditions, consolidating my training. I managed junior staff

Worked between 3-5 shifts weekly to cover vacant substantive post.

  • Worked closely with Occupational Health Physicians providing comprehensive care for employees.
  • Handled confidential medical records securely maintaining trust between employees and employer.
  • Conducted pre-employment physicals ensuring fit-for-duty status of new hires. Administered appropriate vaccinations required for health clearance (eg - Hepatitis B , Varicella, MMR, typhoid, Diptheria)
  • Oversaw, trained and mentored student and junior nursing staff.
  • Implemented immunisation programmes, protecting against contagious diseases in the workplace.
  • Set up BCG immunisation service in OH and ensured staff were adequately trained to deliver BCG vaccinations.

September - December 2024 and 2025

Together with a colleague, was responsible for planning , setting up and managing the implementation of the annual Flu campaign for staff . I liaised with pharmacy and ensured that we had appropriate stock levels,the vaccines were stored correctly and that the cold chain was maintained at all times

I ensured that all staff were competent in patient assessment and screening (adhering to PGD at all times) ,patient consent and safe vaccine administration.

Accurate vaccination records were maintained using electronic vaccination track system. Records were uploaded onto the national database.

The Flu campaign was extremely successful - CUH uptake rates were the second highest in the UK .

Clinical Nurse Specialist Hepatology (Band 7)

I worked as a clinical nurse specialist in Hepatology - caring for patients with primary liver tumours .

I triaged referrals , arranged the appropriate tests and investigations and was the point of contact for patients and their families - providing expert advice and care. It was important to be extremely knowledgeable , warm and empathetic .

I worked as part of a multi disciplinary team - liasing with internal and external departments and agencies. I took referrals for and prepared and presented cases for discussion at the weekly multi disciplinary team meetings . Following the meetings, I updated the patient and their GP with the outcome of scan results / treatment decisions and booked appropriate follow up.

I ran nurse led clinics, at times giving extremely challenging news and as such I have excellent communication skills.
