Work history

Senior lecturer in psychology

University of Cumbria
Carlisle, Cumbria
09.2021 - Current
  • As programme lead for BSc (Hons) Psychology, I have overall oversight and responsibility for the running of the programme. This requires collaborative working with my colleagues at each stage, within my team and the wider university, and the ability and willingness to step in and cover tasks, sometimes at very short notice.
  • As module lead for a range of modules at levels 3-7, I design each module curriculum, teach using a range of techniques. I adapt my communication style and approach to sharing information, dependant on each student and group's needs, being flexible to the feedback I receive from them.
  • As personal tutor, I build professional relationships with students, listen to personal and academic challenges, provide pastoral support where appropriate and signpost to more appropriate support where needed. I provide regular meeting opportunities, keep records and provide references. I have supported students with a wide range of challenging circumstances, some of which have included safeguarding.
  • As recruitment lead for the course, I am the point of contact for recruitment and marketing. I am proactive in developing contacts within school colleges and have delivered a range of sessions in secondary schools for pupils interested in psychology.
  • As programme lead and personal tutor, I am responsible for supporting students in the transition to university, welcoming them and building a safe environment where they feel able to ask questions, share their thoughts and ask for help. I also help them to access additional support where needed.
