East Hull Community Farm is a charity that supports adults with additional needs. The organisation oversee and support clients in care, maintenance and general upkeep of the farm and animals.
I first started volunteering to help with events, I quickly established great rapport with staff and clients, we look forward to seeing each other every week. I became a trustee soon after. I currently volunteer two days per week and for the last year I've been establishing the farm allotment, growing a wide variety of affordable, chemical free produce available for sale within the farms shop, as well as creating new and interesting jobs for clients to work on. For the last 9 months I've had another volunteer work with me and together we've seen the allotment flourish, seen clients gain more interest in helping, increased profits within the shop as well as engagement from visitors. We're also working towards being fully sustainable and self efficient allotment with hopes of developing hands on and informative activities for the community.
