My interest in Travel and Tourism began with annual family holidays to Europe and Africa. From a young age, I've always loved seeing and experiencing new places, learning about different cultures and just watching how people live in different parts of the world. These early experiences sparked an interest in the Travel and Tourism industry. This interest led me to study Travel and Tourism at both GCSE and A-Level, where I've gained a strong understanding of key topics. This has strengthened my enthusiasm and made me even more keen to study the subject further. I've been fortunate to visit a variety of destinations. These trips gave me the chance to explore new environments, experience different cultures, and learn about the unique histories and attractions of each location. I've found these experiences enriching and eye-opening. Ultimately, I want to travel the world, visit a wide range of countries and continue to broaden my horizons. I believe studying Travel and Tourism at a higher level will not only support my academic and professional goals, but also allow me to build a career that reflects my passion for exploring new places and understanding the world around me.
At Rainham School for Girls, I studied Travel and Tourism and Geography at GCSE, achieving a Level 2 Distinction in Travel and Tourism (equivalent to a grade 7/8) and a grade 6 in Geography. I'm now continuing my studies with the A Level Travel and Tourism course, which has deepened my understanding of the industry and prepared me for further study, In addition to studying Psychology and Criminology. These subjects connect with my interest in Travel and Tourism, as they help us understand why individuals commit crimes and identify areas where crime is more common in different countries and cultures. In Geography, I developed an interest in destinations and their cultures, as well as the impact of natural disasters and severe weather on tourism. In Travel and Tourism, I've explored types of tourism, transport, customer service, and job roles in the sector. Through coursework, I've researched global destinations, evaluated how they appeal to different tourists, and examined the effects of global events on the industry. My personal travel experiences have given me first-hand insight into different cultures and provided me with a deeper interest in the subject. Together, my academic studies and travel experiences have provided me with a strong foundation and a genuine passion to study Travel and Tourism at a higher level.
Outside of education, I've taken part in activities that support my interest in Travel and Tourism. I enjoy travelling, exploring new places, and trying food from different cultures, which has helped me to develop an appreciation for diversity - important in this industry. I also enjoy eating out, watching football and Formula 1, and playing cricket, which have helped build my focus and teamwork skills. On several family holidays, I became close with the resort entertainment teams and was able to see up close what their roles involved - from organising activities, engaging with guests to managing events. This gave me a real insight into the customer-focused side of the tourism industry and fuelled my interest in working in it. I've taken on various responsibilities, such as being a student council member, peer mentor, and childminding. These roles have strengthened my communication, leadership, and organisation skills. I also completed work experience supporting primary-aged children in sporting activities, which taught me how to work under pressure, follow health and safety procedures, and engage with young people in a responsible way. These experiences outside of the classroom have helped me become more confident, adaptable and prepared for further study and a career in the Travel and Tourism industry.
