I have always been in love horses, especially the thoroughbred, and have thoroughly enjoyed running my own business - longstanding syndicate group Heart of the South Racing - for the last 18 years. My favourite and increasingly most rewarding element of my job has been securing the best outcome for our horses when retirement beckons. I would now like to use and share that passion, whilst enjoying a new challenge, to support the ROR's commitment to the welfare of retired racehorses.
Initially operating Heart of the South Racing alongside my father turning his hobby into a small business, I now manage the company myself with one employee.
Over the last 18 years we have grown and developed significantly as a business, and now currently successfully manage 12 racing syndicates with over 120 owners. In addition, we manage 7 horses for two sole owners, both of whom were formally syndicate owners with us.
There are many varied roles are involved in running syndicates, including daily communications to a wide and varied owner audience, liaising with trainers and race planning, book keeping and accounts management, horse care and welfare responsibilities.
Working within a busy Diabetes Care department, supporting a team of 20 with all administration and organisational duties which included working to tight deadlines, in addition to preparing and delivering the annual conference. Also a PA role 2-days per week to the department's General Manager.
After finishing University I took up a temporary role in the busy racing office at Brighton Racecourse before 6-months of travelling. On my return, I recommenced my position at both Brighton & Fontwell Park in the hospitality and sponsorship department. My role included creating marketing initiatives, planning and organisation of the suites and packages, facilitating the customer experience and dealing with all Raceday enquires. I also had the additional role of Owners and Trainers representative on a Raceday.
