I'm Ellis O'Brien — a nurturing, caring, and gentle individual who finds deep fulfilment in helping others thrive and lead meaningful lives. My journey into care began at a young age, helping to care for my sister who has Down's syndrome. This early, personal experience taught me the importance of advocacy, compassion, and resilience — and ignited my lifelong passion for supporting people with additional needs so they can have opportunities and receive positive care experiences.
With over 18 years of experience in the Health and Social Care sector, I bring a wealth of knowledge, practical expertise, and leadership across a variety of settings and roles. I've supported individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those with autism, learning disabilities, acquired brain injuries, adverse childhood experiences, and complex behaviours. My approach is always person-centred, adaptable, and grounded in ongoing learning and reflective practice.
Throughout my career, I've proudly acted as a positive role model, consistently demonstrating best practice, integrity, and professionalism. I lead by example — with compassion, fairness, and consistency — while mentoring and guiding others to grow in confidence and competence. In leadership and management positions, I've successfully built cohesive, high-performing teams, fostering environments where both staff and service users feel empowered, valued, and supported.
I work collaboratively and openly, unafraid to raise concerns or initiate change when improvements are needed — particularly in reviewing and adapting care plans to ensure they remain effective, relevant, and fully responsive to the individual's needs. I believe in doing what's right, not just what's easy, and in upholding the highest standards of quality, dignity, and care.
I'm also passionate about education and creating opportunities for all. Whether through supporting access to learning pathways or building inclusive, enabling environments, I strive to help individuals develop their self-esteem, independence, and life skills, so they can achieve their full potential — regardless of challenges or background.
My leadership style is informed by therapeutic models such as DDP (Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and Parenting) and NMT (Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics), guiding me in delivering trauma-informed, compassionate care. I've led the expansion and enhancement of services for both children and adults, always tailoring support to promote their social, emotional, and behavioural management.
I remain fully committed to driving positive change, empowering others, and delivering the highest quality of care through collaboration, empathy, and strong values-based leadership and as a practitioner.
