Work history

Bell Diving Supervisor / Offshore manager

Boskalis Subsea Services
Aberdeen, Aberdeen City
2018.09 - Current

As a Dive supervisor my responsibility would lean towards the safe and efficient execution of diving operations during a dedicated shift. This would involve having sole responsibility for the vessel in its live operating mode. To achieve the project aims effectively requires a deft ability to multi-task. Co-ordinating the divers subsea, remote operated vehicles, vessel position and any use of cranes / winches subsea, routinely operating five different communication lines simultaneously, whilst keeping accurate records and reports. To succeed in both positions, required a great deal of flexibility and intelligence, coupled with a wide experience of subsea construction. It demands attention to detail, an understanding of contractual obligations and legal responsibility, an ability to prioritise work and build trusting relationships by communicating effectively. As the offshore project manager, my overall responsibility was to complete project related work scopes, ensuring the project is executed safely by following national and regional legislation. Representing the company as the first point of contact for the client representatives, I would call and chair onsite project execution related meetings ensuring the project meets its defined milestones. The role demands great communication skills, attention to detail, diligence and the ability to think and react quickly, whilst remaining calm.

Legal Researcher

Open Justice clinic
Remote
2021.11 - 2022.03

Whilst working for the Open justice clinic, the team were tasked to ascertain if there are were any grounds to appeal a conviction of manslaughter. This complex matter involved joint enterprise and gun related gang violence. The primary action was to prepare an advice letter for the CCRC on the safety of the conviction and complete a sentence review, plus highlight any grounds for appeal. Working as part of a team of research volunteers and solicitors we subjectively researched joint enterprise ( R v Jogee ) and applied the law to this matter. I developed a theory based on my exposure to Arabic speakers, that our client may have effectively withdrawn from the act. Currently the findings rest with the CCRC for action. As part of the project the team completed individual Blogs detailing our experience, mine was chosen for publication.

Shift Supervisor-

Go Green Energy
Swindon
2018.03 - 2018.09

As shift supervisor, reporting to the engineering Director I was employed to assist in the commissioning and start-up of a waste to energy plant. My role was to critically evaluate operating and emergency procedures, build a permit to work system and populate a critical path analysis to facilitate the safe operation of the plant. This involved immersive study into green energy and the new experimental plant operating procedures. By applying my Oil and Gas experience to the role, I was able to influence the construction of procedures to ensure the plant would operate efficiently and safely. Being responsible for a small team, my role consisted of collecting data, overseeing contractors, and inspecting sections of the plant being constructed. On a day-to-day basis I would hold pre-shift briefings and allocate work to my team. I would be responsible for reporting any inaccuracies or contractual issues to the engineering director and offer solutions. The role required independent research to develop operating procedures and commissioning task plans by liaising effectively with chemical and mechanical engineers to critically evaluate new methodology and equipment.

Offshore project manager

Maridive
Alexandria, Egypt
2016.03 - 2017.12

As the vessel OCM I was responsible for the day to day management of Diving operations. As the Expat Superintendent I also had the added responsibility of coaching the Egyptian crew to adopt industry best practice and implement international guidance. The vessel had been deemed by BP to be a commercial risk, I was tasked with turning the vessel into a safer and more efficient work site.
Being responsible for the day to day management of the vessel included dive planning, chairing and calling meetings meetings, allocation of diving resources, and the re-engineering of procedures and risk assessments. After gaining the trust of the embedded local crew I was able to implement a new ethos, somewhat influenced by North Sea operating procedures blended with cultural influences to enable adoption of better working methods.
The vessel completed its contract to BP Egypt (GUPCO) satisfaction by upholding industry standards and became a viable asset.

Onshore project manager

Harkand
Aberdeen, Aberdeen City
2015.03 - 2016.03

As an onshore project manager for a diving service provider, my role consisted of taking an invitation to tender, through the contract lifecycle to offshore completion. This involved on a day-to-day basis, meeting with existing and prospective clients, overseeing engineering and
procedure creation and allocating resources to the project whilst maintaining and developing in house relationships horizontally. As a stakeholder in the process, I had reporting lines to director level and board and vertically to instruct engineers and purchasers to ensure the project was ready for offshore utilisation. Once the offshore phase commenced I would be the onshore contact for the offshore team 24/7 to assist in contractual or engineering queries and be responsible to make key decisions during execution.

Dive Supervisor / Offshore Manager

ISS / Harkand
Aberdeen, Aberdeen City
2009.06 - 2015.03

During this period I was employed by the company to perform the role of dive supervisor from 2009 until 2011, and the then promoted to assume greater responsibility as an offshore manager.
To succeed at both positions, which I routinely performed, required a great deal of flexibility and intelligence, coupled with wide experience of subsea construction and Oil and Gas
terminology and procedures. It demands attention to detail, good communication skills, an understanding of contractual
obligations and legal responsibility and the ability to prioritise work and build trusting relationships.
I would consistently manage teams between 30 and 100 persons, delegating and prioritising workloads to achieve a successful outcome. As the first point of contact to the client operators, I would have to negotiate platform allocations of labour, develop relationships with Offshore Installation managers whilst maintaining focus on my employers business aims.
