Ellie Philbin

I am currently in my second year of studying LLB Law at Liverpool John Moores University.

Alongside my academic studies, I have had the opportunity to work in Liverpool University Law Clinic. This has assisted me in gaining valuable experience in the practice of Law. My assignments in the clinic involved assisting clients with their enquiries and offering legal advice for cases. Under supervision, I was expected to legally analyse cases, review contracts and carry out relevant research. In response, I produced an advice letter which consolidated all research based on my clients enquiry. Following a review by my supervisor, I received a first class grade for this assignment.

As part of my third year studies, I plan to further my experience in Law Clinics by choosing the Advanced Clinic Legal Education module at University. This would involve further client based practice and assessment at external Law Centres.

During my first year of studies I additionally attended several court proceedings at Liverpool Crown Court and produced assessed Court reports. This gave me an insight into court proceedings and allowed me to understand different areas of law. Experience in the court influenced my choices of academic modules for the third year. The modules I have chosen cover a wide aspect of areas of law, including family and child law, evidence and property law and practice.

I am keen to gain further insight in the field of applied law and would value any work experience during the summer break within a local reputable law firm, which would enhance my skills and understanding in the application of law in practice.

Alongside my university studies, I have a part-time job as a waitress. I have worked in hospitality for 4 years and believe this job has enhanced my skills relating to communication and customer service. Within this occupation, I train junior members of staff, organise functions and promote teamwork.
