I am a Registered clinical physiologist (AHCS 13976), graduating in 2017 with over 7 years post-graduate experience as a Respiratory/Sleep physiologist. During the past 6 years, I have worked at both Wythenshawe Hospital Sleep Service and Salford Royal Ventilation and Sleep Service. and it is through this work experience that I have gained invaluable experience and knowledge in Sleep physiology. I had previously built full lung function experience during my time as a student and locum at Altnagelvin Area Hospital.

  • Analysis and reporting of sleep studies, including WatchPAT and NOXturnal studies.
  • Initiate patients on CPAP, Bi-Level CPAP, ASV, and NIV.
  • Complex follow-up of patients on CPAP, Bi-Level CPAP, and ASV. This is both via telephone and face to face.
  • Attend bi-weekly MDTs to discuss complex patients, following up on any outcomes and recommendations made.

  • CPAP follow ups for complex patients including making pressure changes, mask fitting + where necessary requesting further testing. Advising junior members of staff on what changes can be made to enhance a patient’s CPAP experience and increase overall compliance where they are unsure.
  • Carry out weekly Polysomnography set up. This has involved training of students in Polysomnography set up including PTP and STP students. Junior doctors have also observed and created leaflets post observation regarding Polysomnography set up for respiratory consultants.
  • CPAP set up as part of the Reasonable Adjustment clinic for patient’s with learning difficulties and or mental health conditions that require extra support. This involves close liaison with carers and support workers along with the consultant to ensure the patient’s best interests are being met.
  • Perform, analyse and report Noxturnal sleep studies according to AASM Guidelines.
  • Triage Noxturnal referrals ensuring urgent referrals are prioritised according to departmental and NICE guidelines for example with H.G.V drivers. I also ensure DNA procedures are followed by the administration team and high- risk patient referrals are reviewed by the consultant before discharge. - Set up + download of Acti- watch equipment.
  • Perform Multi Sleep Latency Testing.
  • Ensuring the accurate delivery of CPAP machines to patients via courier service, including sending the information to the courier service and ensuring all addresses are correct.
  • Manage workload for urgent requests from wards when patients are admitted and are CPAP users. Ensure the patient is being adequately treated, changing masks when necessary and ensuring nursing staff are happy with the CPAP machine.
  • Utilising clinical judgement skills when following up CPAP patients and collating information for MDT referrals when all technical input has been exhausted. Experience presenting cases and following through on the outcomes where appropriate, ensuring all outcome are communicated to the patient and family where appropriate.
  • Daily use of hospital IT systems including Electronic Patient Record (EPR), Lorenzo, E- Referral Service and Windscribe to ensure accurate and comprehensive patient records are maintained.
  • Strong Microsoft Office IT skills including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Teaching PTP students including creating and presenting PowerPoints. During the Covid Pandemic I created voice overs on PowerPoints as face to face teaching was suspended.
  • Completing inductions with new students at the sleep service, ensuring they feel welcome and are aware of the expectations in the department.
  • Monitor resources such as CPAP consumables according to the requirements and demands of the department, ensuring low stock is on order.

  • Independently downloaded overnight oximetry testing and analysed results using NICE and SIGN Guidelines to assess the potential severity and need for further testing or treatment. Analysed limited polysomnography under supervision using AASM Guidelines.
