Vulnerability Manager

I started at British Transport Police as a Vulnerability Coordinator and for the last three years have managed one of four national Safeguarding and Vulnerability Units within the Public Protection and Vulnerability department of British Transport Police. The role is as varied as it is demanding and some of my main roles and responsibilities include;

• To work in partnership with both internal departments and external stakeholders e.g. NHS, Social Services, Local Authorities, Schools etc as the first point of contact for any safeguarding concerns.
• Implementing change and best practice whilst promoting the topic of vulnerability and safeguarding across the force in accordant with legislation. This includes representing BTP by leading, chairing and attending multi-agency meetings to ensure a co-ordinated response to provide best level of care for those vulnerable in our communities, delegating tasks as necessary.
• To performance manage Vulnerability Unit staff in line with the agreed departmental KPI's, e.g. audits of work as well as working with contracted partners such as the local Mental Health Trust to ensure the delivery of Service Level Agreements.
• Work with managers across the Public Protection and Vulnerability Command to streamline processes, ensure efficiency and achieve agreed standards which embodies a shared approach and an omnicompetent workforce.
• Leading and managing on specific projects (for example management of our Repeat High Frequency Presenters) which includes creating action plans for individuals to be shared with third party.
• Ensuring development officer and coordinator knowledge, practices and skills are up to date. Arranging regular CPD and training days for staff.
• Dealing with generic managerial tasks such as pastoral care of staff, annual leave, sickness and complaints.

Within our Public Protection and Vulnerability department I deal with individuals who are victims of crime (e.g. physical and sexual assault) as well as those suffering with their mental health.

• Responded quickly to emergency situations, leading calm and effective negotiations with suspects to diffuse highly charged situations.
• Offered empathy and support to victims whilst professionally handling suspects in line with Police and Criminal Evidence Act.
• Maintained strict confidentiality through careful and correct storage of case documents, in line with internal policies.
• Attended emergencies quickly, remaining calm and professional under pressure.
• Arranged and attended meetings in relation to vulnerable persons (MARAC, MAPPA etc)
• Wrote and submitted reports concerning police activities and investigations.
• Produced and prepared crime reports and case files with meticulous attention to detail, delivering documentation to CPS.
• Gathered evidence carefully at crime scenes, enforcing forensic procedure adherence for accuracy.
• Worked crime scenes, preserving and securing forensic evidence to strengthen investigation accuracy and case viability.

• Assisted pharmacy staff in preparing medications and filling orders.
• Greeted customers and provided friendly, knowledgeable healthcare advice and service.
• Assisted with dispensing duties during busy periods to aid pharmacy workflow.
• Managed new stock deliveries, ensuring correct drug supplies and safe medication storage.
• Counted and labelled prescriptions with correct item and quantity.
• Processed customer payments and completed related order paperwork for pharmacy actions.
• Monitored and ordered pharmacy supplies to meet customer demand.
• Maintained confidential patient records in line with data protection laws.
• Delivered professional advice over the counter, recommending appropriate products and explaining correct application.
