I am a GCSE school leaver this year.
I am starting a two day college course in September in Floristry
Having just finished my GCSEs I am looking to further develop myself by finding part time work in an area that interests me and allows me to use and develop my skills acquired during high school. I am predicted to successfully pass all my GCSEs with grades ranging from 5-8. My most successful subjects have always been one that are practical based and I am predicted an 8 in food technology and a 7 in design technology. I am starting a college course in September doing floristry at Derby college. Floristry and plants is something that has interested me for a long time and this interest was only increased during time I spent doing voluntary work experience that I arranged myself with two different florists over the last 12 months.
I am happy working within a team and have used team working skills in many different ways over the last 2 years. I successfully completed my bronze Duke of Edinburgh in 2023 where I demonstrated teamwork throughout. We had to work together to navigate walking across the peak district without using technology. I also work as part of a group of volunteers at the Max and George trust. The Max and George trust is a dog rescue and rehoming charity. I went down usually 1-2 times a week either morning or afternoon to walk the dogs looking for homes, feed them and clean the cages/bedding and re make it for the night have become a valued and integral member of the team. I pride myself on my strong and collaborative team working skills. I communicated effectively with the other volunteers to make sure everything was done efficiently and timely and the dogs were well cared for.
I feel my main character traits are hardworking, good at communicating with the public both of which I have demonstrated when working with the florists for work experience. I am also resilient and don't let set backs get me down or knock my confidence.
If successful I feel i could become a valued member of the team and hoping the experience gained working in this environment will help build my character for the future in the career I want.
I have spent time with 2 florists working voluntarily with them to gain experience in this field which is something I enjoy and hope to further develop my interest in this line of work.
I worked as a volunteer for the Max and George Trust. The main aspects of this role was to walk the rescue dogs, feed them and ensure they have a clean living space.
