My experience in hospitality has given me the skills and experience to communicate with customers respectfully and appropriately, and be able to complete multiple tasks within a limited timeframe. My work as a carer and community leader has helped me learn how to clearly and patiently communicate things to vulnerable people without confusion. These are all factors that i believe are important for the regular customer interactions that would come with working as a mechanic.
In two years of college garage experience i have become experienced in the practical skills needed for the job, and observed the standard real-life workweek in my time doing work experience in a real garage.
My duties as a personal carer include:
Performing personal hygiene tasks, this includes bathing, dressing, grooming and bathroom assistance / Preparing meals and assisting with eating / Administering medicine / Household tasks such as cleaning, washing dishes and laundry.
My duties as a volunteer community leader include:
Providing meals for vulnerable people / Teaching children and teenagers mindfulness skills / Cash handling / Supporting group leaders at workshops, events and sessions in schools.
During my observation:
During my work experience/observation, i got to experience the typical work environment in a real garage, including MOT testing. I aided in rebalancing and changing tyres and MOT inspection.
My duties as a hostess included:
Greeting and seating customers / taking orders / general bar duties / cash and digital payment handling / General cleaning duties
My duties as a kitchen assistant included:
Supporting preparing meals / dishwashing / cleaning / waitressing
