ELIZABETH DENMAN

Liverpool

Summary

I am extremely passionate about working for the NHS and I am keen to advance my career as a Physician Associate. I have a lot of clinical experience as both a PA and ODP and have worked for many years, in various roles and children and adult primary/secondary healthcare settings. I feel this makes me a unique candidate, due to my breadth of knowledge, experience and skills that I have gained from multiple roles and specialities.

I work well within the team and I love making a positive difference to patient's lives. I hope to continue to challenge myself and grow as a PA, both clinically and academically. It is a particularly challenging time to work in healthcare and I feel I adapt very well in stressful circumstances and can manage deadlines and high patient workloads. I could be a valuable asset to primary care and I feel very confident in dealing with a wide range of patient age groups, conditions and backgrounds.

I would be keen to be involved in any potential research/practice teaching and I have a keen interest in women's health, paediatrics, endocrine and respiratory conditions.

Work history

Physician Associate

Liverpool Hospital Foundation Trust
Liverpool
11.2021 - Current
  • I began my role in the Severe Asthma Service and worked there from November 2021-February 2023.
  • This was a blend of research/clinic based role. I worked on the Accelerated Access Collaborative project with Consultant Hassan Burhan. This involved reviewing 830 primary care asthma patients from 42 GP practices in Liverpool, of which 700 I reviewed in my own asthma clinic, either face-to-face and/or remotely via telephone calls/letters.
  • The ACC project was aimed at identifying asthma patients in primary care who had repeated asthma exacerbations and poor quality of life, despite multiple courses of oral steroids, alongside conventional inhaler therapy.
  • I was instrumental in the collection of data and collaborative effort of the multi-disciplinary team of Consultant Respiratory doctors, registrars, physiotherapists, prescribing pharmacist, Respiratory ANPs.
  • I was heavily involved in preparing patients prior to clinic by assessing their history and creating management plans. I uploaded all their asthma information and history to a database I helped to create to spearhead other work in using biologics to optimise patients asthma control and help to improve their quality of life.
  • I was supervised and supported by my mentor Hassan Burhan throughout the ACC project. I assessed patients in my own Biologics clinic and prepped them for injections and provided, inhaler technique, arranged investigations such as spirometry, PFT's, bloods and signposted them to smoking cessation services.
  • Since the project ended I am currently working in Trauma Orthopaedics Surgery in Aintree Hospital on rotation. I work in both surgery and on the ward.
  • I regularly review orthopedic patients with the consultant, both pre and post operatively, clerking, examining patients, help form a patient management plan, consent them for surgery and work directly within the wider MDT (foundation doctors/SHO's/Consultants/ANP's/nurses) .
  • I first assist and second assist the orthopedic surgeons' in theatre and support the team and ensure the patient's VTE is complete and help to arrange post-op follow-up and discharge plans.
  • I work on the orthopedic wards and also assist on call and related duties, including, supporting the junior doctors, consultants and ward staff and help organise any patient investigations, bloods, imaging scans they may need.
