Volunteer

Cancer Research UK
, Manchester
2023.08 - 2024.08

During my time at Cancer Research UK, I was actively involved in smooth operation of the shop, gaining valuable hands on retail experience. My responsibilities included preparing donated clothing for sale by tagging and steaming items, ensuring they met high presentation standards before reaching shop floor. I upheld health and safety protocols throughout and took pride in keeping the environment clean and organised.

A key aspect of my role was customer service, I regularly operated the till, handled both cash and card transactions, and engaged with customers to ensure they had positive experiences. I spoke to donors about Gift Aid, explaining its benefits and signing them up contributing to its charity’s fundraising goals. I made it priority to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere by greeting customers with kindness, striking up friendly conversations and offering assistance where needed.

This experience strengthened my communication, teamwork and customer service skills and deepened my passion for working in retail.
