KITCHEN PORTER

The Oddfellow Arms
Wilberfoss
04.2022 - 09.2024
  • Communication, As a kitchen porter my main responsibilities were cleaning any pots, pans or dishes that came back from the chefs and customers
  • Over the 2 years that was working there I learnt many skills which I'm sure will help me as an apprentice with the main ones being communication and independence
  • Being part of a team means communication is key
  • Whether it's asking the waitstaff if they need help polishing cutlery or assisting the chefs when they're falling behind on an order, effective communication ensures everything runs smoothly
  • Independence was crucial in this role, especially since the kitchen was often a hectic and stressful environment where immediate assistance wasn't always available.

Work experience

Chris Askam
, Wilberfoss
02 2024 - 06 2024
  • Part of my course required me to complete 315 hours of work experience on site.
  • During my work experience with Chris, my primary responsibilities included assisting him bypassing tools and changing drill ends
  • This helped save time on tasks and allowed us to complete jobs more efficiently
  • As well as this I have also been given more practical tasks such as drilling through joists, first and second fixing switches and sockets via clipped direct and stripping SWA cable
  • I feel like these 315 hours have taught me the basics of being an electrician and now I'm ready tobecome a full time apprentice.
