Edward Jones

I am a hardworking and practical individual with experience across livestock, grazing, and agricultural systems in both the UK and Australia. I have worked within cattle, equine, vineyard, and mixed farming environments and am particularly interested in regenerative agriculture, grazing management, and sustainable land use. I am confident working outdoors in physically demanding conditions, operating machinery, handling livestock, and carrying out day-to-day farm tasks safely and efficiently. I am reliable, adaptable, and keen to continue developing hands-on experience within progressive farming systems.

• Hobbies: I enjoy travelling and visiting other countries. I took the opportunity to spent two months in Vietnam and Thailand in November and December after leaving Australia and before returning to the UK in January (2023)., I enjoy boxing, which I do four times a week, and I undertook a six-week course in Thai boxing whilst in Bangkok., Another hobby of mine is rock climbing; as a student I was part of the Aberystwyth Mountaineering Club and it is something I intend to pursue now that I am back in the UK.

• Trial work with a farrier, 2023-11-01, 2023-11-14, Traveling around with a farrier learning the basics of shoeing, Learning the basics of using a forge, Taking off shoes and clinching up nails after shoes have been put on, Using tools such as hammers, hoof nippers and rasps to clean up and trim horse’s feet, Working long hard hours doing manual labour and picking up and holding horse’s feet for long periods of time.
• Volunteering at Hebden Bridge Equestrian Centre, 2004-01-01, 2015-01-01, Riding lessons and stable management., Volunteering at weekends, undertaking general stable management duties: mucking-out, grooming, tacking-up and feeding the horses., Learning to be always safety-aware when working around highly unpredictable animals and I applied this experience to instructing and reassuring clients on how to stay safe., Responsible for many management duties at the front of yard, such as instructing clients on how to do certain tasks correctly and safely: e.g., tacking-up, leading a horse, tying-up and mounting., Assisted in the training young horses.
• Yard duties at Myerscough University, 2, Weekly yard and stable duties and involved working with horses from different backgrounds and with different temperaments.
• Visiting ARTA Riding School, Golegã, Portugal, 2, I visited the ARTA riding school in Golegã on two occasions., I experienced first-hand, the care, breeding, training, and riding of Lusitano horses., I also undertook a short course in equitation.
• Research project at Lluest Equine Centre, Aberystwyth University, 2, I carried out my MSc research project at the University’s equine centre., I developed excellent working relationships with centre staff and was always conscious of safe working practices and horse welfare.
