From a young age growing up on a farm in Ireland I have always had to work hard. I take pride in my work and like to see a job completed. I would never ask anybody to do something I wouldn't do myself and safety is paramount, I believe good planning and preparation enable a job to be completed first time and safely.
Overseeing 6 Southern Water process sites in the New Forest where we self deliver, my duties include attending planning meetings, programming works, Meeting with the client, planning and overseeing temporary works, deploying labour and plant, ordering materials, checking rams, meeting regularly with site teams and sub contractors, Resolving onsite issues, holiday cover, promoting safe working practise and observations, attending briefings and giving toolbox talks. We have a fantastic safety record with no service strikes in 2025.
While working with Knights Brown I completed a bespoke 1000 m green heart promenade built on 125 yr old cast iron piles at Ryde pier in very restrictive conditions with our own labour. I also completed a contract involving the construction of roll on/off landing slabs at Southampton docks, storm tie off bollards and dock fenders, This was tidal work with a mixture of our own and sub-contract labour. I had a lot of contact with the client, regular planning meetings, all procurement for site along with all GF duties.
While working with Ryebridge I oversaw the construction of a container storage yard at Southampton docks. This was a very busy project where we had to dig and break out to formation, install drainage, electric and comms and pour slabs with expansion, contraction and movement joints. We used all sub-contract labour which brought it's own challenges.
While working on this smart motorway highways project on the M27 I oversaw the installation of deep drainage, gantrys , ducting, crash and central barriers, road formation, earthworks and landscaping. We predominantly used sub contractors to deliver the works. Duties included checking safe methods of work, quality, daily briefings, toolbox talks and logistics.
While working with Hwm I gained promotion to Foreman early on and did my SMSTS, We were in partnership as groundworks contractor with Morgan Syndall and completed 5 multi story carparks in Southampton docks, This involved pile mat installation, pile cropping and capping ,deep drainage (tidal) ducting installation, paving (over 1 million laid in one year) and concrete works.
We also built 2 factory units at Chilworth Science park, a chemical factory unit and a ferrari service station.
I was often the only management on site supported by an engineer,
Duties included meeting with the client, managing plant and labour, procurement, logistics and working in a live dockyard.
I worked on many R.C framing projects all over the south coast gaining a lot of experience, sometimes taking on contracts on price supplying men and materials.
I learnt an awful lot working for this small civils contractor, where everybody did everything from digging the holes, installing services, shuttering, steel and pouring concrete,
The owner/Manager told me early on to not come to him with problems but with the solutions,
This has been my mantra throughout my working career.
I have over 40 Years experience in the construction industry gaining a lot of skills along the way I bring a lot of knowledge in ground works and concrete framing, I work well as part of a team and feel I have good leadership skills I believe safe working is the first building tool to delivering a job I am never daunted by a challenge and bring solutions not problems
