Senior Maintenance Manager (Aircraft Weapons)

  • Manage a team of 40+ personnel to allow the efficient operation of the Air Weapons department to enable the Aircraft carrier to achieve its main mission, to deliver combat strike capability.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Proven expertise in OME Safety Management and Defence OME Safety Regulations (DOSR), serving as a Command advisor to the Senior Executive Officer on risk based decisions, critical actions, and priorities during emergency incidents.
  • Responsible for the management, maintenance, safe custody and creating technical safety processes for OME assets worth £55m.
  • Building rapports and working closely with DTs, Original Equipment Manufacturers and customers (BAE Systems, Babcock, and NATO nations) on multiple projects, trials and providing written reports related to OME storage, handling, and safety.
  • I coordinating the safe embarkation of munitions in line with SHIM (storage and handling instructions for munitions), regular communication with DTs within the Weapons Operating Centre (WOC) DE&S for fault reporting (MF760s/S2022s/MID cell reports/health monitoring), safety investigations of embarked munitions (ASRAAM, AMRAAM, Paveway, Stingray Torpedo, LMM) and delivering OME safety training to embarked Squadrons.

  • Provide comprehensive operation and engineering data to the Aircraft Serviceability Report system to aide OEM and Type Airworthiness Authority with Merlin equipment Through Life Support Programme.
  • Conduct Local Investigations and provide a detailed analysis in response to Defence air safety occurrence reports on aircraft and air equipment to maintain airworthiness, provide recommendations to prevent reoccurrence of safety critical incidents and reduce the risk to as low as reasonably practicable.
  • Human Factors facilitator ensures all personnel are up to date with mandatory training requirements, to reduce Human-factor based errors on the Unit.

  • Key Achievements
  • I highlighted an Operational safety risk and chaired meetings between the OEM and Senior executives to coordinate the design and replacement of a faulty safety locking mechanism on a state of the art weapon handling system. Because of my actions it maximised a critical system’s availability and enabled sustainment of operational readiness to meet national and NATO security commitments.
  • I assisted Stingray Torpedo DT and BAE Systems with trials and test, and provided detailed reports for the MOD 2 Torpedo, to help develop the handling and storage element during Aircraft carrier operations.
  • Bolstered unit accountability and compliance by executing first-party audits on various departments whilst comprehensively detailing audit scope and findings and producing detailed final audit reports.
  • I identified several areas for improvement and provided effective solutions which resulted in a reduced risk of injury to personnel working on weapon lift spaces, by implementing mandatory safety procedures via technical instructions prior to system operation.
  • Lead military collaboration during the successful completion of an ATEX compliant project to upgrade all lighting systems in all explosive compartments to LED (Light-Emitting Diode) standard, on time and within budget.
  • Led my department to the successful completion of an intensive 5 yearly PreEmbarkation Inspection conducted by Maritime Capability Trials and Assessment (MCTA), ensuring my department was ready in all respects to conduct operational duties in line with Def Stan 00-101.
  • Reliable and trustworthy on several occasions I have been singled out by Senior Executive department to deputise in the absence of my line manager to lead the workforce requirements for 4 sub departments of the Air Engineering Department.
