GMC (General Medical Council): 6139031

I am a Consultant Medical Ophthalmologist with dual expertise in Medical Ophthalmology and Internal Medicine. I hold a substantive NHS Consultant position at University Hospitals Birmingham, a leading teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Birmingham. With over 10 years of experience in General Internal Medicine, Diabetes, and Cardiology, I have developed a comprehensive and multidisciplinary medical background. My residency training in Medical Ophthalmology took place across major district and tertiary care hospitals within the West Midlands deanery, followed by a post-CCT fellowship at Oxford University Hospitals.

I specialize in the diagnosis and management of eye disorders linked to systemic diseases, as well as inflammatory eye pathologies such as episcleritis, scleritis, uveitis, and ocular surface disorders. My expertise also extends to medical retina conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and neuro-ophthalmic disorders.

Driven by a passion for delivering world-class medical care, I thrive in challenging environments and value collaboration with dedicated teams to enhance global health outcomes. In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I serve as an educational and clinical supervisor for junior doctors at University Hospitals Birmingham and as an examiner for the MRCPI General Medicine clinical exams.

  • A Randomised, Embedded, Multi-factorial, Adaptive Platform Trial for Community- Acquired Pneumonia ( REMAP-CAP ). REMAP-CAP uses an innovative trial design to efficiently evaluate multiple interventions simultaneously. UHB have currently recruited 32 patients to this trial.
  • A randomised phase II proof of principle multi-arm multi-stage trial designed to guide the selection of interventions for phase III trials in hospitalised patients with COVID-19 infection ( CATALYST ). This is an academic study led by colleagues at the University of Birmingham and UHB have currently recruited 41 patients to this trial.
  • Respiratory Strategies in COVID-19; CPAP, High-flow, and standard care ( RECOVERY RS ) The RECOVERY-RS trial compares the effectiveness of three ventilation methods Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), High flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) & standard of care. UHB have recruited 478 patients to this trial.
