Consultant Respiratory and General Physician with over 10 years of consultant experience across Germany and the United Kingdom. I completed my medical degree and specialist training in Internal and Respiratory Medicine in Germany before moving to the UK in 2014, where I have developed a senior NHS career and currently serve as Clinical Lead for Respiratory Medicine. My clinical interests include pleural disease, bronchoscopy, thoracic ultrasound, lung cancer and acute respiratory medicine. Born in Palestine and educated in the United Arab Emirates, with a brief period living in Jordan, I bring a broad international perspective and communicate fluently in Arabic, German and English. Outside medicine, I enjoy travelling, gardening and spending time with my family.
I provide specialist consultant care across inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory respiratory services within a busy NHS District General Hospital. My clinical practice spans the full spectrum of adult respiratory medicine, with particular expertise in pleural disease, bronchoscopy, thoracic ultrasound, lung cancer and acute respiratory medicine.
I manage patients with common and complex respiratory disorders, including pleural effusions, pneumothorax, empyema, malignant pleural disease, asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, chronic cough, pulmonary nodules, interstitial lung disease and acute respiratory failure. My current procedural practice includes diagnostic flexible bronchoscopy, thoracic ultrasound, ultrasound-guided pleural aspiration, chest drain insertion, indwelling pleural catheter management and pleurodesis, with extensive procedural experience in bronchoscopy, thoracic ultrasound, chest drain insertion and indwelling pleural catheter management.
In addition to my clinical practice, I provide strategic leadership as Clinical Lead for Respiratory Medicine, having previously served as Lung Cancer Lead (2022–2024) and currently acting as Lead for Pleural Disease & Interventions and Lead for Non-Invasive Ventilation. These roles encompass service transformation, governance, workforce development and quality improvement.
Key achievements include modernising the Trust's pleural service through updated clinical pathways, LocSSIP-aligned safety standards and replacement of procedural ultrasound equipment; redesigning the Non-Invasive Ventilation service through updated guidelines, multidisciplinary education and equipment modernisation; developing the governance framework, Standard Operating Procedure and competency programme for the Enhanced Medical Care Unit; and introducing rapid-access respiratory pathways supporting Same Day Emergency Care.
I work closely with multidisciplinary teams across lung cancer, thoracic imaging, and pleural medicine, and I maintain strong collaborative links with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Harefield Hospital, and Royal Brompton Hospital to ensure timely referrals for advanced diagnostics and specialist interventions.
Alongside clinical practice, I serve as Site Principal Investigator for the NIHR portfolio RASPER multicentre pleural research study, act as a Peer Reviewer for Cureus Journal of Medical Science, and contribute to postgraduate medical education as a Clinical and Educational Supervisor, delivering structured training in thoracic ultrasound and non-invasive ventilation.
